Wow... my body is ready πŸ˜€

I did some testing and I can't reproduce this on 11.2
Browse the internet a bit, Google Chrome perhaps? Watch a few videos on Youtube, if you have hardware acceleration on, it'll happen.

Sure, just try this. Does it without fall on two systems I use, and on a friend's with a 280X also on W10 AU. But passenger has reported the same steps don't work on his W7 with an identical 7870 (pcb/vbios), but other situations regarding FF 3D accel and media would trigger it.
I'll give it a shot.

I use Firefox with hardware acceleration enabled but I can try Chrome. After posting this I loaded up some flash (hardware accelerated) videos and MPC-HC with DXVA, closed the browser, then the rest, and its' now locked at 500MHz. I had to enable hardware accelearation on flash to reproduce it, I have it disabled usually, but enabled browser side. It doesn't happen if I play HTML5 videos on YouTube, well it hasn't happened while testing. I'll make a bug report at AMD it seems easy to reproduce.

Vsync modes and triple buffering would be so nice. My guess is a HiAlgo kind of gimmick. We'll see.
I want wattman for my 380, i dont want any 3rd party programs on my system. I only use gpu-z to check temps and stuff...

Any leaks about incoming drivers? I was wondering about HiAlgo in some new games. They have spent a few bucket of dollars to buy that.

asder00 has been really quiet lately. Whatever they have they must really want it to be under wraps until the last moment.

You are devil, but thanks . I hope you're right. Maybe they are working to reduce CPU overhead... blah, this would be too good to become true.

They have already done that i think in recent drivers...

They have done this in 2015, really.

Since DX12/Vulkan I doubt that's a priority for them now, but it would be great.

I sure hope so. One thing to keep in mind with DX12 and Vulkan is that it's not as common in the MMORPG market. Alot of these games use ancient engines, even of games that are still in active development today. That market also tends to target low end and ancient machines. I know that we all wish modern API's would take off, especially Vulkan to push some Linux gaming finally.. But, realistically it only feels like it'll be happening on the FPS and RTS front.

There aren't that many, so per-profile optimization would work best for them, is my guess. I'm not sure that AMD can do a ton about how old DX9/DX11 games do submission. Unless they pull an NVIDIA and somehow dramatically drop overhead in general, although I feel it's more of a hardware than a software issue at this point.

Case in point: 2.4.3 of Diablo 3 is the first x64 build of the game's executable. Speaking of ancient engines still being developed... πŸ™‚
