Breaking even, if the original reports are true that they've spent 500 mill on this new IP. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if 2/3rds of that money is just on marketing.. regardless of my thoughts on the game, the marketing has been saturating to say the least, and I for one am fatigued by it.

True, said marketting is succesful though. IMHO, I don't have the slightest interest in playing this game. A new IP that sounds no different from borderlands.... I'm not understanding the interest. Compare it to another blockbuster: I was in line to buy GTA 5, because GTA has been with me since childhood (was a teenager for GTA3 and was playing 1-2 and London 1969 prior.)
Probably because of the marketing and the fact is made by the people who made Halo. From what i've seen of it, this Game is Halo with a sturdier fps aspect but with less 1 liners and no vehicle content worth speaking of.

I would be excited if it was on PC.

It a Shooter/FPS that is why it sold like hot cakes, Halo wasnt all that special it was good but was not great, MS spent fortune on adds for the series, Just like Activision spend fortune on COD series and that sells like hot cakes. GTA series has had alot less spent on adds and is arguable one the best selling franchises. With out all the fortunes spend on adds i doubt halo would be anything but pass fad along with COD they did nothing but help water down the genre as a whole. That i still pissed with fact Bungie pretty much gave the finger to the PC after MS bought them out.

I was once upon time interested in HALO when it was for PC/MAC 3 years in development before Bungie even knew about XBOX 2 years later it was on XBOX almost 2 years later pc got bad port. The series was no worth the wait and imo didnt help the genre. Happy for bungie making something that isnt halo but still FPS/Shooter and its water down crap a opposed to all FPS game before halo.

It should be noted that it was 500 million worth of copies sold to retailers, not to customers, GTAV sold 800 million worth of copies to customers in 2 days.

Might be so but it was done with whole lot less advertisement GTA actual had next to none in compression and it sold more. Do enough advertisement and anything will sell, even if it a turd. Not say destiny is bad i just saying would it of sold the same amount if it didnt have all the advertisements? same for halo and cod?

From what I've been reading, its also due to the fact that everyone and their dog that purchased a console was counting on this game to be THE title to get to justify their console purchase. For some, they will enjoy the game and it will be worth it. For the rest, its not at all. I've read many complaints, particularly from people who have purchased the collectors edition to find that the extra cost didn't provide what they were hoping it would. I haven't yet played the game so I can't comment on whether its good or not, but there is no question that it was way way way overhyped and to me it seems like Bungie was a victim of their own hype, which would explain why there were no reviews prior to the game's release, which is not typical.

The game has so many elements ripped from Halo. I know they created it but it makes it far from original. The gameplay is repetitive and will get boring fast.

Hmm that 8,333,333 million copy sold

8,333,333,000,000 does sound quite a lot. 😀

I am unable to buy this game, I don't have an X Box or PlayStation. What kind of moron would game on one of those toys.
Lol you're one of elitist pc people who use words like consolites, gamers game which ever format its on pc, console, tablet ect, so much hate towards other formats.

Sometimes we don´t need to play the game to know if it´s good or not. Taking the example of Destiny it´s easy to see that the game is basically Halo with a few MMO elements and while i agree that Halo is a good, it´s not anything special. The reason why Destiny is having so much attention and success is because of the hype surrounding the game. For the past month, everyday there´s a different article about the game so people are always aware that the game exists... By the way i´ve read that this "amazing" FPS has auto aim?! Is that true?...
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/238/238382.jpg
Well... it's a console game.. so it would have a type of auto aim wouldn't it? the same was true for the halo games on console if memory servers, its like you aim and as the middle of the reticule gets close to the target it sort of auto follows... That is how I remember it at least for previous Halo games on console, mind you that was years ago for me so I may be wrong. To be honest I'm not really excited about the new consoles, I don't know why.. when the 360 come out it was really cool... but these consoles are sort of... I don't know how to explain it, just not exciting is the best way to describe the feeling towards them.

It really started with Diablo 3. People were bashing it, people who never even played the game. It was "cool" too hate D3. Game sold 15m copies in the end and that says it all. With Destiny, people suddenly decided to bash it because it lacks in the story department. It's a shooter. Who cares?
You are talking about the followup to a legendary game there. Diablo 3 fell a few miles short of that. Destiny is.. well the reviews and users have already spoken with their rating for this one. Another watch_dawgs PR hypemachne game that falls short.

wheres the proof that the sales are at 500$ million...marketing bull****:puke2:
It is marketing bull, read this. They have shiped 500 million worth of copies to retailers, not to customers, they haven't released the sales figures for customers yet. They did the same thing when they released COD Ghosts. GTA V is still king, it made 800 million worth of sales to customers in 1 day, and 1 billion in 3 days.

A moron wouldn't, a gamer would. I've owned multiple gaming PC's over a long period of time and I've made many updates. I've also owned countless consoles, because I enjoy playing games. Some games aren't available on the PC. Simple as that. Is that difficult for you to understand?
I second that, plus that there are games that you can play together with friends and family from the same couch.

Yes, and many PC games aren't available on consoles, either...;) A whole lot of them, as a matter of fact. Not just that, but many, many PC games are better buys than console titles...That side of the coin is always ignored for some reason. The games that aren't available on the PC that I would want to play badly enough to buy a console are unknown to me...;) Just don't know of any games fitting that category. But I don't think there's any doubt as to PCs being better gaming buys all the way around than consoles. I've always thought the console market belongs chiefly to folks who have trouble discerning the difference between a mouse and a ram chip, and somewhat limited budgets--although, these days $500 will buy you a lot of gaming PC. What I dislike the most about consoles, even more than their relative hardware inflexibility when compared to a PC, is the fact that many console developers are in that market because they can't compete in the PC gaming marketplace...it's too tough for them (like Epic and id software, for instance.) But, to each his own, of course...:D

Now, going back on topic, Destiny is lacking not only in story but also in originality: there are so many elements plagiarized from Halo...
Well it is made by the people who made halo ... unfortunately they didn't use the good elements of Halo ... and now the Halo series has lost most of what made me love it .... why do bad things happen to games I love.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/241/241896.jpg
hope ,fingers crossed that maybe one day in the future they may port it for the PC market.. I've been watching game play on twitch and i would buy it for the PC np , looks really good actually:banana::banana:

... Also, they didn't spend 500m making this. I'm so tired of ridiculous press releases and **** like this. Does this look anywhere like a 500m game lol? Look at how ****ing dead the world is? 500m was a total investment in everything. Sequels etc. This game looks like it was made for no more than 40m dollars at most. The script is horrid, the characters are not there. Most of it had to be coding a new engine or something cuz this don't even look like a 100m game in the end. Marketing prolly ate up 3/4 of that budget.
You are of course exactly right...;) Any company that spent $500M developing a AAA title is a company that won't survive to get a second chance. 9/10ths of that number is marketing/merchandising, etc. Sad thing is to spend so much promoting a single game means that the first $500M gross the game (and associated merchandising) brings in is not *profit*! Ugh! Best way to market a great game is still word-of-mouth...games are kind of like bad Hollywood movies--only the worst ones get huge marketing budgets while the good stuff more or less sells itself. I have no plans to buy this as I don't buy online-only games at all. Never heard of it actually.... 🤓
