Does this thing even work on consumer-level GPUs? I think at least nvidia doesn't allow 8K on anything less than Quadro cards? Or was that 10K?

Yes it can be run by new high end graphics card - it hits right up at the max.

Can we all please stop the nonsense complaining?
It's about getting closer and closer to "reality", as reality doesn't have pixels. The universe is "almost" continuous ( atoms being the smallest "pixel" )
Obviously, display panels don't need to get their pixels to the atom level, but a level small enough so no matter how close my nose is to the screen I won't see pixels, and any line at any angle is perfectly smooth, like drawn on paper with a pencil... I'll take that !

GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 can also run at 8k resolution 🙂

Absolutely love the way Dell pushes the envelope. I do wonder what connectivity this might have. Single DP 1.4 should be able to handle it, but Dell tends to use older standards and compensates with having to use multiple cables. Not that there's that much wrong with it, but less cables is always better. (Plus it removes potential issues area)
Edit:
Well, it's 2 x DP (ver 1.4) for 60Hz.

I'm running 4K on 32" with no scaling and it's perfect. If things got any smaller than this it would be too difficult to use efficiently. I wouldn't mind seeing what the use cases would be for this though.

This is probably aimed at Hospitals.

I could never imagine needing more than my 40 inch 4k monitor we need more power to drive these dam things ( or at least I do )

http://www.hasselblad.com/h6d), so what gives brah?
Post production whether a moving image or still, this res is needed.
And...my PA has 8K boobies.
Resolution is very important when doing something like keying, and digital cameras can do this res (And a hasselblad can do incredible resolution, check this yasamoka

Obviously this is a workstation monitor. What we gamers can get excited about is that this tech will eventually filter to the mainstream and then into the gaming arena with high framerates.

I can imagine this being great for those filmmakers running Red Epic 8k Cameras, I have built few workstations recently for filmmakers needing a system to drive 8k footage, Monitor like this would go hand in hand.
