I have the iFixit Manta kit, just bought it on a whim and been using it more than expected.
I just checked that out, it's a nice kit, but, £62 !! haha, I almost fell off my chair, i'll stick with my much cheaper version thanks, i'm far too tight to spend that sort of cash.
Meanwhile I use the same single Philips screwdriver which I used 30 years ago assembling 486's...
It is -slightly- worn out 🙄
That's kind of like comparing a Fiat from the 1980s to a modern pickup truck as if they're comparable beyond being vehicles. Sure, the Fiat will get you from point A to point B very affordably and in reasonable comfort, but it just simply isn't built to do anything other than that. Obviously there's nothing wrong about your old Philips but it also offers nothing other than being robust.
This kit very obviously is meant for just taking apart a wide variety electronics. The vast majority of these bits you would never use for your own build at home, and the handle is too small (length and girth) for anything beyond low-torque and low-corrosion environments. That's also why your old screwdriver still works fine - by the time you could put any real stress on such a screwdriver for a PC build, you'd snap the head off the screw. I would know - I've done it.
Having said all that, as a PC enthusiast, I felt it was well worth spending $25 on a double-drive ratcheting screwdriver. Mine came with 12 different bits in the handle but it works with all standard bit sizes. If you're building something kinda complex, it's a time and wrist saver where both the clockwise and counter-clockwise motion can move the screw. My screwdriver's ratchet is also nearly silent (I've used others that were pretty loud). I assume it's not very durable (especially for the price) but again: you don't need a lot of torque for electronics.
To be honest, it kinda did !
I have never ever broken a computer during assembly or disassembly !
Oh, and btw, it's magnetic. Those pesky little screws have no chance.
This probably costed $3 and worked for 30 years (so far). Talk about value !
Same as others, I use a screwdriver converted to magnetic by sliding along a rare earth magnet, and maybe pliers for the standoffs.
The only time more is needed is for a case mod.
I mean, i do the same with as many of you, though lastly i somehow managed to break off my T5 Bit from the Ifixit kit. Using this for small things, like Phones etc.
This Corsair kit costs 35 Euros, thats not much sort of, considering if you go with Wera or Gedore here in Germany you get like 2 Screwdrivers for that price.
But the question remains, how good is this corsair kit, is it just another chinese crap, or ist it something of higher quality (i do highly doubt that though)...
Anyone has better insight into that?
