...and how long will that little fan last until it seizes up and causes system instability from overheating chipset chips?

I don't like the idea of a fan there. Plain and simple.

Oh my god, last time i had a mobo with a fan in south bridge was back when core 2 duo came out. like 2002 or something... 3 mobos got fried in less and 3 years all 3. Very bad design, wonder why they felt they needed to add a fan there.

As mentioned in the Biostar thread already, AMDs X570 chipset produces a lot of heat in certain usage scenarios. This has been confirmed by various insiders, however they couldn't (or would not) tell which usage that is. As such, it is very likely that many, if not most, X570 boards will come with a chipset fan. Its not done by choice, but by necessity.
Can only hope that high-end boards use high-quality fans which won't fail within a few months already.

outside that i have good airflow and low case temps cause of aio for cpu,
even if its noisy, lots of small fans out there from other brands, that can run pretty much silent.

This board looks very nice and clean.
Even if a fan like that fails after 4 years, it's easy to fix.

Sort of amusing that no one seems to care about fans on the cpu, gpu, and psu, case fans, etc...;) The main objection to a chipset fan would be noise, which won't be a problem, hopefully. Anyway, I suspect the fan may be something relevant for the pictured CVN mboard only. We'll see!
What might it be there for? PCIe 4.x support? Insane overclocking support?

this is madness? No, this is poor MB design, 15W of TDP are easy to handle...

I very seriously feel that if the chipset fan wasn't truly necessary, it wouldn't be provided. If only for economic reasons.
Just a guess, but I'd like to think that the fan is only turning moderately, only when required, and that threshold is adjustable from within the BIOS. Guessing further, I suspect we'll see motherboards rated for the upper-tier R7 & R9 (?) processors, and lesser boards that more closely resemble the earlier 300 & 400-series platforms for the lower TDP processors. (No chipset fan.)
I'm not usually a fan of "stylized" motherboards, but I must confess, I like the look of this one quite a bit.

I like the idea of a fan, that location also helps push airflow over other devices such as m.2 SSDs which high end models have been found to produce uncomfortable levels of heat.
My old Gigabyte X38-DS5 board used "silent pipe" heatsinks for the northbridge and southbridge and let me tell you, that northbridge heatsink was hotter than the surface of the sun, you could burn yourself on it (and my system had good airflow too), a small chipset fan would have been tremendous help.
Unless the fan is running at high rpm, I doubt noise would be that much of a factor, especially with modern cases designed to dampen sound.

Itll give me a reason to either watercool it or find my old swiftech chipset cooler with 1/4in copper base 🙂

Had it on one of my NForce2 boards back in the day.

Looks like a new nForce coming. That was also HOT with active cooling. But no wonder. X570 is likely going to be 14LP.
