Not surprising in the slightest. While an RTX 6000 is an obviously better GPU than a 4090, it isn't more than 5x better (if we go by price). A lot of what you're paying for is customer support, which let's face it - China isn't going to get much of. So, they might as well save a ton of cash and opt for a cheaper and more common part. The only thing I don't get is why they didn't opt for AMD, who doesn't really cripple compute performance when opting for desktop parts. Whether you get RDNA, CDNA, or GeForce, their level of support will still suck; China is left to figure things out on their own regardless of what they opt for, so, I would think it'd make more sense to opt for a platform that's a little more powerful for their situation. Meanwhile, they have open-source drivers, so China could use their own CPU architecture and OS.

As long as the Chinese has to rely on getting this tech thru black market or other means, they are extremely vulnerable. How long before a AI "goes rogue" in China due to some hardware introduced malware?

LOL WUT? Turkey and Ukraine have AI drones already... They terminate base on profile, fly all day and land only to rearm and fuel... Even the big bad (meaning terrible) NATO cannot keep up...

What does that have to do with anything I said? Also what Turkey and Ukraine have as far as combat drones remains somewhat a fluid situation with a lot of conflicting information out there, as usual. But that's not really relevant in this discussion. (And Turkey is a NATO country)
