^^This! Also its going to take another 157 years till the average amount of wifi devices in the home increase from 7-11? I wonder who comes up with these scientific findings. That is hell of future proofing. Most homes might have their own space shuttles also, should I just go out and buy one now?

From 2014 to 20171 is 18157 years..... My house has 2 smartphones, 2 tablets, a Roku, a printer, 2 laptops and a blu-ray player....so I'm already at 9.... Won't take me 3 years to reach 11.... This does sound quite expensive though..... For some reason, router prices have been climbing anyway. It's hard to find a Gigabit router for a reasonable price. With so much going wireless, it seems that router manufacturers are content with slow 100Mb/s LAN ports. If I'm running a home media server, why would I want 100Mb/s LAN ports on an N or AC router? It makes no sense.

Why does a blu ray player need an internet connection? :-S I just have 2 phones, a tab, and a laptop as wireless devices in the household :P

Not so much here. If it's stationary and has a ethernet connection, ethernet it shall be. In order to save power WiFi also shuts down at night when people are asleep (ty ASUS for this handy feature).

BD-Live requires internet.....as do the streaming features built into my blu-ray players. A lot of blu-ray players also have to get firmware updates to be able to play newer blu-ray discs because blu-ray is an "ever evolving standard"..... Yeah, it's stupid. DVD players had the advantage of being able to play any DVD without the need for firmware updates.

I had a Belkin router that could turn off WiFi on a set schedule. Problem was that it didn't want to turn WiFi back on without being rebooted.....lol
