A number of games will be to a certain extent but not all, saying that i've been gaming since I was 13 (30 now) and a number of games seem too easy because they all follow a similar formula that gamers have had years to perfect. How do you know were just not getting smarter in our old age 😉

The games are okay, being multiplatform imposes its restrictions. What irritates me is the over emphasis of multiplayer.

I miss single player games with a great story to it and puzzles mixed with combat, etc. The last decent game with that had to of been Alice Madness Returns for me.

Just look at world of tanks, that travesty pretty much plays you...awful! Games are being made so easy to play that nothing is left for the player to do.
whats wrong with WoT 😀 crappy players do nothing in that. they just die. like in fps games in general. on topic: the video was good dat cliffy b admitting he is guilty as charged. ye making games more cinematic for e3 and people go OOOOOMG. Best games seem to come from indie developers as of late in terms of gameplay / difficulty and well ideas.

Dumb is not a strong enough word.

Come on face it...people want dumbed down games. They want regen health they want to make it passed the next level without even trying even auto aim they want...if not they would not break records every time a new game comes out that has these features. i heard 1 or 2 people not buy games that had these features and to top it all off if anyone does go on a rant about it they are squashed down as game haters. gamers are like drug addicts...they take and use what you have no matter how good or bad

Game designers suck, that's what's going on. Older 3D titles were very tight and solid in the way they delivered information. Look at Zelda: Ocarina of Time. 3D, relatively open world, and you never felt too confused or dumb. You never felt like you didn't know what you were doing. Now take a modern 3D game. Devs are trying to do way too much. They want too many things at once, so much that they need texts and arrows telling you where to go and what you can interact with. It's just poor design that's causing what could be complex games to be dumbed down. Then again dumbed down = more playerbase, so there has to be a tradeoff too.

Play Darksiders 1 first, it's much better in my opinion 😉 The story of Darksiders 2 is horrible by the way... no mystery and the ending is so easy and anticlimactic that I didn't felt like I've accomplished anything after all the killing.

of course modern games are DUMBed down, how else they can attract the new generation of audience?
+1 Gamers are not willing to invest the time in longer games these days. good ol' ADD/Google generation.

Yes, already saw this with Deus Ex 2. Almost all games today hold the players hand and tell him (or her) what to do.

Not really. Graphics have stagnated quite much because of consoles. It's been looking the same for years now.

I'm generally more amused over that people consider 'old' games rather than 'hard'. The Last Ninja games were relentless, as were the old text-based adventure games.

Jess McDonell chats to industry heavyweights from Cliff Bleszinski to Team Meat to find out whether games really are being simplified and if so, why? Check the video after the break.... Are Modern Games Being Dumbed Down?
they been getting dumbed down since snes era, Have we seen FPS games as of late? there all Run and gun till low health then hide while you regen... that completely ruined any and all fps games that use that kind of system. RPG games they been dumbed down something fiery all the micro managing of each character and ever aspect of the games, have been remove FF series is one of them everything past X was completely dumbed down and made for people that have no patience want the game to be able to play it self. Auto save while is nice feature is a double edged sword. I miss all the old school rpg that came out of the snes to ps2 era some of those rpg's I spent days just trying to fiqure out where to go next or to beat a boss, and when i did fiqure it out i was like hells yes i did it, now a days 5 min later i I fiqure the stuff out or beat the boss and I am like eh really?? Fps games, that where health packs that actual made you think is this good idea to go running in gun blazing, Only have 78% health and who knows where the next health pack is! those where the days of good fps games. I blame halo for starting that crazy with regen your health, and COD pretty much beating you in the face with same type of system year after year. I hate both series, but I would actual love COD if it didnt have that regen health. Gamers are impatient these days, and want non stop fast action with as lil effect on there part as possible.

I just wanna butt in by saying linear != dumbed down. The popular jRPGs on the SNES were very much linear but they were still fantastic games. I think a lot of the modern games that we despise are games that basically play themselves. It's like you hop on a tram cart and just go on for the ride. CoD:MW2 is very guilty of this. I can't speak for the entire series (I'm sure it's trash) as I haven't played the rest but I tried that one and oh my goodness. @_@

... on average = Yes, games are simpler/now now than they were 10 years ago, let alone 20 years ago. Truth to be told, the short (really short) amount of time it takes to beat most games now is what bothers me the most. 🙁

Pac Man was harder then some of the games of today.

Anarchy online.. Now that was a complex mmo. implants, nano crystals, expansive armor types, twinking, no "class" specific skills, you had to pick which ones worked best for you, but you had access to all skills to spend leveled up skill points in, and so much more. Not a game most 12 or 13 year olds can pick up in a day or two. Heck, you need to play for a month just to get the implant construction down. I feel sorry for kids today, they look at old games with primitive graphics, and compare to their new games with state of the art graphics, and don't realize there's more to a game than eye candy. So they play these new games mindlessly one after another, completely oblivious to what really makes a game good.
