A number of games will be to a certain extent but not all, saying that i've been gaming since I was 13 (30 now) and a number of games seem too easy because they all follow a similar formula that gamers have had years to perfect. How do you know were just not getting smarter in our old age 😉

The games are okay, being multiplatform imposes its restrictions. What irritates me is the over emphasis of multiplayer.

I miss single player games with a great story to it and puzzles mixed with combat, etc. The last decent game with that had to of been Alice Madness Returns for me.

Dumb is not a strong enough word.

Come on face it...people want dumbed down games.
They want regen health they want to make it passed the next level without even trying even auto aim they want...if not they would not break records every time a new game comes out that has these features.
i heard 1 or 2 people not buy games that had these features and to top it all off if anyone does go on a rant about it they are squashed down as game haters.
gamers are like drug addicts...they take and use what you have no matter how good or bad

Game designers suck, that's what's going on. Older 3D titles were very tight and solid in the way they delivered information. Look at Zelda: Ocarina of Time. 3D, relatively open world, and you never felt too confused or dumb. You never felt like you didn't know what you were doing.
Now take a modern 3D game. Devs are trying to do way too much. They want too many things at once, so much that they need texts and arrows telling you where to go and what you can interact with. It's just poor design that's causing what could be complex games to be dumbed down.
Then again dumbed down = more playerbase, so there has to be a tradeoff too.

Yes, already saw this with Deus Ex 2.
Almost all games today hold the players hand and tell him (or her) what to do.
Not really. Graphics have stagnated quite much because of consoles. It's been looking the same for years now.

I'm generally more amused over that people consider 'old' games rather than 'hard'.
The Last Ninja games were relentless, as were the old text-based adventure games.

they are dumbed down but we are more skilled, too

I just wanna butt in by saying linear != dumbed down. The popular jRPGs on the SNES were very much linear but they were still fantastic games. I think a lot of the modern games that we despise are games that basically play themselves. It's like you hop on a tram cart and just go on for the ride. CoD:MW2 is very guilty of this. I can't speak for the entire series (I'm sure it's trash) as I haven't played the rest but I tried that one and oh my goodness. @_@

... on average = Yes, games are simpler/now now than they were 10 years ago, let alone 20 years ago. Truth to be told, the short (really short) amount of time it takes to beat most games now is what bothers me the most. 🙁

Pac Man was harder then some of the games of today.

Anarchy online.. Now that was a complex mmo. implants, nano crystals, expansive armor types, twinking, no "class" specific skills, you had to pick which ones worked best for you, but you had access to all skills to spend leveled up skill points in, and so much more.
Not a game most 12 or 13 year olds can pick up in a day or two. Heck, you need to play for a month just to get the implant construction down.
I feel sorry for kids today, they look at old games with primitive graphics, and compare to their new games with state of the art graphics, and don't realize there's more to a game than eye candy. So they play these new games mindlessly one after another, completely oblivious to what really makes a game good.
