Looks like the 470 will be a great bang-for-buck card. Nice!

I do not understand why the hell gpu clocks are lowered, like somehow smaller chip was made using crappier materials and harder to cool...

Because with lower clocks, a higher amount of chips will pass the validation test, so less chips will be discarded, so less wasted money, so they can be sold cheaper.

yet they throw away more of more expensive rx480s?

GTX 1050 coming at 200$ I imagine, and people waiting for the 150$ MSRP lol

Amd really needs to hurry up with these releases Nvidia has had an answer already for the 480

RX470 looks too good to be true.

The gap between the 470 and 460 is so massive, i bet there will be a 465 to fill that up at some point.

Or they just want 470 to sell more. With those specs looks like its gonna be close to 480. Priced at 150$ this can be a very nice card.

RX 460 for Cool and Efficient E-Sports Gaming. What is this, some kind of joke? 😀 No e-sports player would use this card. Well, when a new product is released, there is at least one marketing goof that comes with it.
They play at low resolution and low details to minimize fancy distracting effects. I'm sure it will sell.

Will the RX470 perform like a 960 then?
Between 960 and 970. As you can see specs wise is very close to 480. I would assume 10-15% slower than 480.

RX480 seems a refurbished R9 290, it's about the same framerate in every game, just a little bit better. I think AMD is not doing a good job if they are only repeating the same products over and over, year after year. Providing only minor changes in performance or better power requirements for the same performance. Sure, it's cheap... of course it is!!! The low-mid class of nvidia (1060) equals the top class of AMD next-gen (480)? come on AMD... you can do better... you NEED to do better... I had 2 x R9 290 in crossfire, and, after several years supporting AMD with many GPU models, I recently changed to a single 1080 GTX. AMD needs to work hard to regain the lost crown.

The 480 is the mid-range card and it goes against the 1060 (that is mid-range too, not low). The top card is called Vega and will be launched in 2017.

Pretty sure these will sell like hot cakes, low-mid range cards are always the bestsellers. Still, I too want to see the higher end cards already, I just hope they will still come out sometime this year, next year is simply too late.

Vega will be faster than the 1080 with its hbm. Titan will most likely he faster but that isn't an issue. My only worry is power consumption.

You would be surprised how many low-budget players (or kids) wants to play CS:GO, LoL or other this type of games. This card could make their dreams alive. We'll see. ;-)

It's getting 390 performance with 2/3 of the shader processors, half the rops, 2/3 of the memory bandwidth, and ad half the power consumption. This is the exact opposite of rebadging. It is also targeting a different market segment than what the 390 was targeting. All of your comparisons are invalid. The 480 is not the top AMD card for this generation.

:pc1: hmmm this was intended this way from both side lol just to remember: -the GTX1060 starting point of mid/high class compete with Radeon RX480 mid/high class -was the same in previous gen GTX960 was competing with R9 280 (despite this time red was better) nothing change 🙂 and high end is still missing in both camp

the clock is not all the power of a chip... it depend too about the conception. remember the 1st core gen of CPU from intel wich at under 2.0ghz was performing better than the previous 3.0ghz chip NVidia with Pascal stay on the same line despite some few change while AMD introduce more and so clock is less important for them, than this new gen architecture. also lower clock with same chip permit binning and reduce cost... Sometime it permit to build big hit like the GTX950 wich is a binned 960 that do more or less the same once OC for 90 Euro less... sadly with 2g of ram 🙂
