I want a proper quad channel CPU not to throw half my 5820k DDR4 stick out the window, Hope AM5 will support quad channel πŸ˜• Edit:
https://i.imgur.com/tAMVaGT.jpg
The dotted lines around Raphael and Rembrandt are intriguing. Raphael having an iGPU is also intriguing. Maybe they are both Chiplet designs, with Graphics ? Rembrandt doesn't have the dotted line around the GPU though, so it could still be a monolithic CPU+GPU, but with added on-chip memory maybe ?

That Van Gogh CPU is a total potato. Mark my words.

AM5 will be DDR5 so you'll be chucking all that ddr4 out of the window lol

OK I'll bite, what the hell is a 'total potato'?

Technicaly quad channel should bring something better... but in real world i came from quad channel dual Xeon to dual with less core Ryzen and in most case Ryzen do better (and the box is smaller and better vented)... Exept if you really really really need to keep your mem (useless for Ryzen if lower than 3200), you can sell everything and get new one (but i would wait the DDR5 Ryzen as your CPU is still a good one)

I am looking at the Zen 3 Ryzen coming... the question for 2020 is WHEN?

End of the year for Zen3 and Rdna2.

Maybe he means that only mono sound is supported? πŸ™‚

AMD made it so simple for primary desktop sockets ... AM2 - DDR2 AM3 - DDR3 AM4 - DDR4 AM5 - Some people still can't figure what it will use πŸ™„ --- Mainstream will most likely never be quad-channel, there is simply no need for that. Threadripper covers the quad-channel market just fine, for those that need it! --- I seriously doubt Warhol will actually make it into 2021, not even sure at this point that Vermeer makes it to 2020. I guess we'll see...

Those slides look 100% unprofessional, done in Paint by a school kid... maybe the info is a real leak, but the picture isn't, any company would use something so badly done even internally, I hope πŸ˜›

Well you guys made me reconsider my upgrade plans, think i'll push my 5820k to the end of line in 2021 then. I have been pushing over and over for a year now, this upgrade rate from AMD has been disrupting every plan i made. Guess my 22nm CPU will keep me warm one more winter then.

To my defense i have never ever followed AMD until now, learning curve ? 😳

There ware some Phenoms II that supported ddr2 and ddr3 on am2 and am3 so its not all that simple and dandy. πŸ˜‰

Yes but some of us have a little better memories and know it isn't that simple. I wouldn't doubt we see something like DDR2 / DDR3 on AM3 when you had compatibility for both baked in the initial offerings. Its pretty simple now with a separate IO die.

That's not an apples to apples comparison. You will lose a tremendous amount of performance on a multi-CPU setup if an application running on one CPU demands access to memory from the other CPU's memory controller. So yeah, depending on your workload, obviously a single-CPU dual-channel configuration will work better. The reason anyone does multi-CPU is because they don't just need more memory, they need more cores too. Meanwhile, you have to consider what the actual memory needs are. For socket AM4 (and, likely AM5), you have an iGPU, which is utterly starved for bandwidth. Going from single channel to dual channel nearly doubles the performance, and overclocking your RAM has an almost linear performance scale. Although more memory channels does have some inherent performance losses, in the case of AM4 or AM5, you will get far more of an improvement than a loss. So many motherboards these days have 4 memory slots, and nowadays there is just no point in having multiple slots per channel (except for servers and high-end workstations, where they need all the memory they can get). You can get DIMMs up to 128GB on DDR4 and I'm sure you can go higher on DDR5. I would so much rather have those 4 slots become individual channels, where maybe these APUs will have some real compelling performance. If you hadn't noticed, AMD hasn't been putting more compute power in their 4000 series iGPUs. That's because there's no point - they're so starved for memory bandwidth that more GPU cores just simply won't accomplish anything.

IΒ΄m very curious about the next CPUs from AMD. I hope they continue to deliver.

Van Gogh is a potato cultivar from Netherlands. I don't know if the potato variety was given that name because of the van Gogh painting depicting potato eaters, though. Maybe Hilbert would know, being from Netherlands himself. He has probably seen the painting if he's interested in art.
