While less sophisticated than @barbacot in his answer, I see little practical value to this. But still good to know that with reference cards you already have a BIOS that seems to give you some (auto?)OC headroom under water.

XFX new custom air cooled 6800XT did 2.7ghz boost so this isnt prolly some extreme situation actually.

Yeah i saw that..that's freacking impressive honestly..what i'm seeing is much better hardware from the AIB's then AMD itself. Cooler and capable of hitting higher frequencies. I wonder if there will be any 6900XT capable of 2.8 on air.

Yeah saw the Red Devil hitting 2.7GHz without changing to water cooling. So it's not too extreme to believe 3GHz on Water could be a reasonable proposition.

This thing will crush 3090 at those clocks. I guess we'll find out in few more days.

That's because unlike nvidia AMD is using a true reference card for their cards. Where Nvidia made custom cards for their FE card. So that's why you don't see anything better from the AI B when they make theirs. Nvidia is the true douche bag lately. Im so happy we have competition all around.

How does Nvidia forcing AIBs to compete with their design at MSRP make them "douche bags" ? It's literally forcing the companies to make better cards and not run away with the prices...

I'm really disappointed that amd artificially have a hard lock down on the clocks at 3000/2150Mhz maximum on this flagship when most likely they can overclock further than that , never like restrictions and hard wall on gpu and memory clocks. Not good for overclockers 🙄 ...

If i ware you i would be disappointed that 3090 cant break 2ghz.

It's not about breaking anything, the overclockers community complaint is that AMD is intentionally hard limiting the cards to further segment them. Also the Kingpin 3090 goes to 2.58ghz so I'm not sure what you're talking about anyway.

lol really , i run 2160Mhz all day on my daily and yes rtx 3090 can break wayyy more than 2ghz , i can run 2430Mhz stable see picture attach of my Asus Tuf 3090 😀 https://i.imgur.com/mr8Nm5u.png

Exactly this ^ +1 , thank you Denial . that's what the overclocking community feel's AMD made a bad choice by locking down the clocks on all 6xxx video cards that's all. Complete breakdown of the 6xxx bios and hard limits read here: https://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/147060-amd-radeon-rx-6700-xt-bios-files-leaked-analysed/ Overclocking legend and hardware engineer Der8auer complains about amd clocks been fully locked se here: [youtube=dZhpUTmAppY]

But Kingpin will cost you $2000 at least and in UK I'm expecting £2k flat hahaha and I'm not paying for any GPU £2k Stock RTX 3090 are limited by only one thing power limit, if you will do shunt mod then you will gain good portion of performance but without it in games which doesn't have high GPU utilisation you can hit higher frequency I would say both companies like Nvidia or AMD limit us in one way or another Hope this helps Thanks, Jura
@jura11 The voice of reason. Btw imagine the power draw on that @chispy 3090. Portable power plant needed. 😀

Me neither but you can't say the 3090 doesn't break 2ghz when there are 3090s that break 2ghz. It's just factually inaccurate. He didn't say "3090 can't break 2ghz under $2000" he said the card can't do it and yet the card can do it. Further the context of Undying's post indicates that Chipsy should be upset by the maximum achievable clock of the card - but again, that's not what the overclocking community is upset about. They are upset that AMD is artificially locking the cards. It's not based on power, cooling, whatever - it's just locked and despite literally being the same chip, the 6800XT is locked lower than a 6900XT. And even if you are retroactively changing your position to "Well nvidia locks their cards in some fashion too" - the overclocking community bitched about that when it was introduced as well - in fact I remember Chipsy also on this forum complaining about it. So if anything his position on locking overclocks is consistent between companies.

No harm done my Guru3d brother 🙂 , it's all in good fun amigo. Yes rtx 3090 with high power limits like Strix , FTW , kingpin can run above 2Ghz daily or if you have 2x8 pin power plugs you will need shunt mods to let it boost to 2Ghz. I have connected my PC directly to the nuclear power plant closest to me 😀 , joke bro. yes it is very power hungry but if you can keep it cool and have the power to supply the huge energy requirement why not do it 🙂 , it just i do not care about $1~3US dollars on my monthly power bill that's all my friend , the sincere truth 🙂 , i get what you are saying.

Ofc its all fun and games no hard feelings. Enjoy your card and dont burn anything. :P

Because Nvidia is douche bags. There are so many d bag level crap they have done on the level of intel and yet people sit on their knees for them. I just dont get it.
