yeah i need to try this, but will wait until the game falls in price first. Horror type games are a tad stressful in the rift lol. Assetto Corsa soon, cmon devs!!!!!

When did you order it ?
A week or three ago. They are out of stock and I have to wait until the new batch arrives. Can take up-to eight weeks (!)

Yea it's a long wait, but after playing with my brothers, it's definitely going to be worth it
Yeah, at recent press event I have tried an exclusive UT4 EPIC demo, after seeing it, dodging a missile and get hit by several gun shots I went to the Oculus website and was like 'here take my money -- please!'. Next to that I think Oculus is a worthy addition to cover here on Guru3D.com

I mean this is an obvious statement but the software for the Rift needs to improve significantly before I can recommend people getting one (for fun, and yes I know it's a dev kit). I've had the DR2 for about 2 1/2 months now and I've only used it about 4-5 days/times. Once you get it working it works but it breaks a number of things and causes all kinds of issues. Like yeah it's cool but trust me it's not as simple as saying "oh I feel like playing an oculus game right now" it's more like "I feel like playing an oculus game sometime today, let me uninstall a bunch of drivers, spend an hour getting the game to work properly, clone my displays because the directvr works on like 3 titles, setup my screen recording software so i can see the output.." Then undo it all when you want to go back to normal gaming. Elite: Dangerous is a ton of fun with it though, so I may check this out.

I was sceptical about the Oculus Rift as geologists use VR in work for virtual locating & drilling of oil & gas wells, it looks terrible but this WOW ! who do I give my money too ! 🙂 .

ohh liking the thought of more coverage around here 🙂 You probably know this already but the UT4 was on Cresent Bay prototype though not the DK2 which is unfortunately inferior in terms of resolution( 1080p vs probably 1440p - not disclosed ), refresh rate( DK2 75Hz vs CB 90Hz ) and CB has a slightly wider FOV 110 in CB vs 100 in DK2. Regardless though DK2 is excellent, just CB is a smidgen better 🙂 , ELite: Dangerous is stunning in DK2.

[...] Motion sickness is a problem though.
Would not be a problem for me, since I spend so much time standing still in a lockers afraid to move. :uhoh:

We received the DK2 at our office about a month ago now.. Honestly can't say that I'm that impressed with it.. its cool and all, but riddled with problems.. severe lag in most of what I tried it with.. a pain to get all setup with its driver and tracker. I realize its a dev kit, but I expected it to be a bit better personally.

If that is the reality of then we should write about it ... but it is like you stated a dev kit with lots of work in progress and upcoming prototypes. If we can create enough hype names like AMD and NV will get broader game support for it and with that comes optimizations and ease of use by development.

tbh DK1 was easier to use than DK2 due to the fact you just need to clone the screen and set rift as primary. It'll get better when everything is using direct to rift and they sort out the judder issues e.g. with Grid Autosport you just launch it and away you go( albeit menus arent in VR and you need low settings for direct to rift compared to extended ). Anyway as you said, its still a dev kit, but hopefully useability will be improved for DK2 in the coming months.

Yeah, I mean you can definitely see the direct to rift being awesome in theory but as it stands getting the thing working took me forever. Like literally the first day I think I fiddled with it for 8+ hours to make it work. There was so many undocumented things. For example, if you use teamviewer the "blackout" driver installs a generic teamview driver for displays in order to power them off. Well you can't have that installed on any displays with the Oculus on. But that's not (well wasn't) stated anywhere, on any forum or anything. It was by sheer dumb luck that I removed it and was able to recreate the bug an report it to them. I ran into a bunch of problems like that, incompatible software, driver issues, tracker issues, I probably reinstalled the firmware 20+ times on the thing. Once you get it working though it's awesome. I mean obviously quality/fov can improve, you do get a screen door effect from pixels, but the feeling of looking around is just awesome. Elite Dangerous really shows the kind of UI concepts they can come up with too for it. Looking around the cockpit and the various displays light up and provide information and stuff. So cool.

At least I'm not the only one lol I spent so much time getting it to work also. And yeah the screen-door effect, honestly to me, is the worst part of it. Its very distracting to me and is a huge dent in an otherwise (what can be) very immersive experience. ED was one of the first things I tried, and in that it is very cool to use. Still tough to get around how pixelated everything is, but yeah.. definitely neat.

they need to release an update to the SDK, both 0.4.1 and 0.4.2 have plagued me with bsods, it's something to do with riftenabler.sys and sli and crossfire setups, still it is early days for the DK2 and it is still for me the most immersive experience when it comes to gaming, people who never tried it don't realize how effective this tech is.

Personally after using Oculus and also looking at the Vrvana Totem, its clear that Oculus will not be in the drivers seat for long. Other startups are doing some interesting things over and above what Oculus VR is, so for them, they do not have the luxury of time anymore, imo.

Anyone know why I'm getting 2 identical screens, one per eye on the DK2? So basically what you would see if watching someone on a monitor, playing the Rift, is what Im seeing in the Rift, two squashed images like you would see on the monitor instead of them combining to make a 3D image Only happens in certain games, and AI is one of them, Ive added the hack to engine xml, paused the oculus service, enabled extended mode, and movement works, but two images instead of one
Revert back to the older nvidia driver, the latest WHQL broke the SBS rendering and you end up having 4 instead of 2

Good idea but it will never be mainstream & will flop in time as have all other attempts at VR have in gaming.

What games did you try with it?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/138/138684.jpg
It's been happening with the beta's and previous too
Yes it happens with the betas for the whql but not the previous driver. I had this issue myself a few days ago and reverted back and its fine again in elite and alien isolation.

Anyone know when its coming out of DK and the commercial version is going to be available? Fancy giving this tech a go!
