Image Quality. I'll take IPS or an equivalent any day over TN. And you are speaking to the guy that owns an Asus ROG Swift PG278Q.

Im with the first guy on this but ive also been told i have low visual standards

Yeah, and I use IPS monitor for work 8 hrs./day, but at home I use TN 120hz for gaming. Image quality on both screens look the same to me, but the differences in response time and refresh rate are noticeable.
Depends on many factors. I cannot see that much of a difference between an IPS and a good TN either, but I'm somewhat color-blind, it's called dyschromatopsia actually. This and the fact that decent IPS panels are quite expensive, while good 144Hz panels are not.

True. There are several good IPS panels that are close to TN panels with regards to refresh rate but are very expensive...
Hm, do you think a 300-dollar IPS to be worth it? I mean compared to a 300-dollar 144Hz panel. I wish to acquire another panel to supplement my current regular-ass 3-year-old 1080p TN panel. I had the feeling that it's only worth investing into expensive IPS panels. As in, the cheaper ones aren't that great.

I'm coming from a 5ms TN panel so.. I probably wouldn't notice it.

IPS > TN But for games refresh rate matters more than color shifting as you move.
In my case I can't enjoy gaming if the display image quality is crap. Fastest IPS screens are more than enough for me to not even think about going back to TN. At the moment 75Hz fast IPS is best compromise in my opinion.
IPS is garbage for gaming. High input lag. High g2g. Very noticeable blur/ghosting. This is why I use an Asus ROG Swift for gaming and a Dell 2715H for work. 🤓
That's not true at all. There are many IPS screens with extremely low (or basically none at all) input lag.

Can't wait for that 144hz, 1440p (or 4k), G-sync monitor with AU Optronics AHVA panel...! Not sure about g-sync, but I'm guessing it's doable? I remember seeing that AHVA was now possible at 144hz but don't remember if g-sync was mentioned. Regardless, that needs to happen. 😱

Well...I've always thought of Acer as junk...but if the price of this makes sense it might be worth a try to give Acer another chance. The Asus monitor has been a QC disaster and availability is imposisble and pricing is extremely high...so it's nice to see SOMETHING, ANYTHING else show up on the market

Can't quite follow you there. I got my Swift fairly soon after it became available at all. Low availability hints at high demand.

It hints at it but in this case it's not really accurate. Retailers have mentioned (for an example see NCIX forums where NCIX employees post) and ASUS has confirmed as well that they only release a few units at a time to each retailer, not even enough to cover back orders in many cases. Yes, that means demand is higher than supply, but the fact that supply is extremely low and remains so even months after it's release makes the demand seem bigger than it actually is

What with all the hate against TN? Personally I prefer the 144hz over color accuracy or viewing angle. If IPS can't do any better response time-wise, TN will still be my no.1 choice.
There was an IPS monitor news piece for 120Hz not that long ago, so yah, TN now officially licks balls in comparison

Lol i cant say anything. I am using a 2+ year old Samsung LED 27" 1080p display. Need a new one bad. BUt ive been thinking on whether i should get a new 27 inch 4k or 2x 24 1080p displays. I can get 2 24 inch DELL IPS panels really easy thats why i am wondering about it.

The problem I see is more in competitive play: - Still a bit more latency - More then 1080p ---> Hardware requirements to maintain 120/144 fps are ludicrous Lots of top quaker/csgo players are still running lower resolutions with black bars these days.

I see people on here saying there are fast response ips panels out there but i dont see anyone actually listing any. If there are so many out there why hasn't anyone named one? OLED cannot mature fast enough!! Soon as they fix the burn in issues and computer monitors are finally viable all this TN/IPS crap will be moot. Until then what are some good fast IPS panels?
I just spent time trawling through the news section and using the search and I simply cannot find either the news story I saw here, or even my amusing comments which followed. My comments also only go back so many months before disappearing. Can't remember the brand or the exact details, but it was IPS and it was 120+ Hertz refresh rate. Now, I don't know or remember which type of IPS it was or what the dot pitch was or the screen size/resolution (minimum 24inch/1080P) or the even whether the colour depth was 8+2 Bit or 10 Bit - all I know was that it ticked every godamn box for gamers and dripped ownage. The release date and price is also foggy.

I actually had that issue with the blur/ghosting on my Korean panel, when it happens it made me annoyed, as I would notice it in games when it happened. it would cause the image to smear and i could not figure out why it was happening but it was more notice able with certain colors like Sky blue. The input lag bother me a tad but it was just the blur/ghosting that made me regret getting a IPS. Now the input lag was enough for me to effect my gaming to the point I turned off vsync, but then the tearing got on my nerves. The only reason that I had a Korean monitor was the 2560x1440 hype train that was going on at the time and the fact people was getting good overclocks with them, but mine didn't do that well. After I had the monitor for a while after it was just meh and was just another res as the wow factor wore. Just like how the upcoming 4k res monitors doesn't wow me other then their massive price and req fast hardware to take advance of it to keep the fps over 60, in my case i would need it to be over 120 as I can't stand 60hz after getting used to 120hz. Then my Korean monitor died, and as soon that happened I went straight this Asus VG248QE that I tweaked using some settings and a icc profile. Which made me not miss my korean monitor because I don't notice any difference from the colors the blacks might be a tad off but not so much that i notice something is off as it too close to call after the tweaks. But to be fair different people have different needs while one person might love a IPS panel for their own reasons, Another one person might love TN panels for it reasons. So it down to the person eyes.

And i will take the lose of color over the terrible response times IPS has, To me lose of detail in movement is uglier then the lose the color. It comes down to preference. I have 2ms response monitor and 5ms HDTV that use an IPS panel I notice the blur on the 2ms monitor and defiantly notice it on the HDTV. Just like I rather have the crap performance with Vsync on and no tearing then have the better performance but tearing. beatuy of the game ruined by tearing the surperior IQ of IPS ruin but the response time. 24" of this monitor would be so much nicer.

What size are you looking for? Here are several fast IPS monitors: Dell u2312hm - 23'' and 8ms http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC Dell U2412M - 24'' and 8ms There are other Korean models, being faster and 120hz but unsure of the name.
8ms...fast...what..?

Supposedly this monitor: http://www.eizo.se/default.aspx?page=11&product=FS2333-BK the Eizo Foris FS2333, has a 3.2ms response time, probably the best there currently is

My experience with Acer monitors has always shown me that their monitors have more washed out colours than Asus monitors. So I went with the ROG Swift and i'm not disappointed.

I've used a HQ 10-bit TN panel beside an IPS, and saw virtually no difference. Games looked just as good to me on both. The only thing is sometimes you can argue with glossy vs non-glossy, you can get better colors out of a glossy in some lighting atmospheres. But that's from my experience. Id rather eliminate ghosting all together on a HQ TN panel and save my eyes, since I virtually see no difference, and have no viewing angle issues. I sit directly in-front of my monitor at all times.
