Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 SOC Sneak Preview

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

The GeForce GTX 680 SOC (Super OverClock) from Gigabyte has arrived here on the Guru3D testing-grounds. This week a 7970 SOC model already launched, but that SKU only has a volume size of 100 available units. Almost a waste of time to review. The GTX 680 SOC edition however will become in larger quantities, albeit limited as this really is an exclusive high-ed product catered towards a very small segment of enthusiast users only.

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Last week the first rumors on the GeForce GTX 660 Ti appeared on the web, and the new graphics card series from NVIDIA is looking really good (if the specs are right). However a Chinese website called redquasar posted some interesting information regarding a 256-bit version of GeForce GTX 660 Ti.

As the rumor stands right now there will be  models of GTX 660 Ti as videocardz.com now reports, here's the skinny on that from them:

One, which specifications were leaked few days ago, has 1344 CUDA cores and 192-bit interface. However, this model cannot beat the Radeon HD 7870, so NVIDIA came up with a new version with 256-bit instead, but also a castrated amount of cores

Radeon HD 7990 Further Delayed

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

While the card was never 'announced' officially for a release in the the first place, the release of this dual-GPU card was expected in late July. Sources now indicate that there will be no AMD consumer product releases in August at all.

Known under the codename "New Zealand", Radeon HD 7990 represents AMD's highest-end part from the Southern Islands architecture. Consisting out of two Tahiti XT GPUs and 6GB GDDR5 memory (special edition 7990s could reach 12GB), Radeon HD 7990 goes head to head against the GeForce GTX 690.

By default, AMD has the advantage in terms of 50% more video memory (GTX 690 has 4GB), significantly higher memory bandwidth and the new Turbo mode, technology similar to the Turbo mode used on NVIDIA Kepler-based cards with a few major differences.

We'll have to wait and see ..

HIS Radeon HD 7750 iCooler Graphics Card

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

The 7700 series are great graphics cards to build great light PCs or a HTPC with, HIS just announced the Radeon HD 7750 iCooler low-profile graphics card.

The card is designed to provide mid-range DirectX 11 performance to slim form-factor (SFF) PCs, and HTPCs. The card is designed with a half-height PCB, but its active air cooler spans across two expansion slots in your system. To keep its temperatures in check, HIS opted for the older AMD reference GPU clock speed of 800 MHz. AMD recently updated that to 900 MHz. The memory is clocked at 1125 MHz (4.50 GHz GDDR5-effective).

The cooler uses a monolithic aluminum heatsink which cools the GPU, VRM, and memory chips on the obverse side of the PCB. The heatsink is ventilated by two 40 mm fans. HIS claims that the cooling solution has its noise output under 28 dBA. Display connectors include dual-link DVI, HDMI 1.4a, and D-Sub. HIS includes low-profile brackets with the card.

NVIDIA 'A new Dawn' technology demo download

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Guru3D.com ImageNVIDIA released the 'A new Dawn' technology demo. We have it available for download.

You can discuss this DX11 technology demo right here.

In A New Dawn, the demo starts not with the main character, but with a sweeping overview of a lush rainforest. Ferns gently sway in the moonlight, vines sprawl across an ancient tree, and budding flowers cast a gentle glow on the surrounding bark. As our character comes into view, we find her swinging on a vine in her new tree home. The tree is rendered to the finest level of detail using DirectX 11 tessellation. At its peak, over four million triangles are used to showcase Dawn's environment.

Fast forward ten years, and NVIDIA has brought back Dawn once again, in a demo simply titled "A New Dawn". The original Dawn demo had many merits, but due to the limitations of hardware at the time, it also took many short cuts. One of the most obvious was the fact that Dawn didn't really have a home. Fairies, as we all know, live in the depth of mysterious forests, but for Dawn, her home was a giant glowing cube map
