Arctic Introduces Accelero L2 Plus VGA Cooler

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Though not announced a new cooler from Arctic is available, the Accelero L2 Plus.

The L2 Plus is designed to be a GPU fan-heatsink with a number of individual heatsinks included in the package to cool the VRM and memory. It is targeted at mid-thru-performance segment graphics cards with square GPU bolt layouts. The main fan-heatsink measures 119 (L) x 94 (W) x 51 (H) mm, weighing 250 g. It is a monolithic aluminum heatsink, that uses a 92 mm fan to ventilate it. The base doesn't cover the entire bottom area of the heatsink, and so the fins guide the air down to the PCB, to cool other components.

The main heatsink has the capacity to handle thermal loads of up to 120W. The 92 mm fan spins at speeds between 900 and 2,000 RPM, and is PWM-controlled. It can push up to 27 CFM of air, with noise-level of 0.4 Sone. Apart from the required screws and bolts, there are eight heatsinks each for memory and VRM chips (standard sized MOSFETs). The small heatsinks don't come with thermal tapes, but instead a sachet of Arctic G1 Adhesive TIM is bundled, apart from non-adhesive MX-4 for the main heatsink. GPU compatibility is listed below. The Arctic Accelero L2 Plus is priced at $22.67 in the US, and

Prolimatech Camouflage CPU coolers teased

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Shjeesh ... that's just a design of an Asian guy overcompensating for something -- just silly -- but still cool :)

Expreview received some photos of Prolimatech's upcoming Camouflage series coolers. It includes a Megahalems and Genesis model, but except the color both parts are identical to the models already available on the market. These as such match the Sabertooth mainmboard series color wise.

Currently there are diversified CPU Coolers in the market, but the color matched schemes seem to be not so eye-catching,which always come with silver, black and copper salmon pink. However,ProlimaTech decides to make its products more personalized with the debut of its brand-new Camouflage series coolers.

This time ProlimaTech rolls out two models, they are based on the designed of Megahalems and Genesis, the color scheme is just like that of ASUS SABERTOOTH series motherboards.

The two new coolers both belong to Camouflage series, and they are called Megahalems Camouflage and Genesis Camouflage.Apart from the color, the other specs are supposed to be the same as the common one.

Arctic Freezer 13 Continuous Operation CPU Coolers

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Arctic introduced two new CPU coolers specifically designed for gaming/enthusiast PCs that stay on 24x7, or for "continuous operation".

Two models are released, the bigger Freezer 13 Pro CO and smaller Freezer 13 CO, designed for thermal loads of up to 300W and 200W, respectively. The 24x7-readiness comes from the fans, that use dual ball-bearing and are designed to be less sensitive to dust. Arctic claims that the fans used are 5 times more durable than generic fans. Both are aluminum fin tower-type heatsinks that consist of U-shaped copper heat pipes that pass through a copper base, conveying heat to the arms that pass through the aluminum fin stack.

Measuring 134L x 96W x 159H mm, and weighing 893 g, the Freezer 13 Pro CO uses a 120 mm fan that spins at 300 - 1350 RPM, pushing 49.7 CFM of air through the heatsink. It also uses a 50 mm blower that sits on top of the CPU base, which resembles the blowers found in single-slot VGA coolers, it spins at speeds of 700 - 2700 RPM, blowing air in all directions, cooling the components around the CPU socket such as VRM, memory, and northbridge. It uses four copper heat pipes that pass through the heat fins in a uniform file. The Freezer 13 Pro CO is priced at US $58.32.

At 706 g, measuring 123 L x 96 W x 130 H mm, the smaller Freezer 13 CO uses a 92 mm fan that spins at 600 - 2000 RPM, pushing 36.4 CFM of air through the fin stack. The stack itself is a lot more compact than the one on the Pro variant, heat is fed to it by four copper heat pipes. This cooler goes for $43.71. Both coolers have a film of Arctic MX-4 thermal compound pre-applied, both are backed by 6 years warranty. That should tell you something about the durability of the fans, to put up with 6 years of grueling 24x7 operation [via tpu]

EK stops Nickel-Plated Water Block Production

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

If you are the owner of an EK nickel plated waterblock, then please check your setup. TPU reports the following via rrtech:

Water-cooling major EK Waterblocks (EKWB) halted the production of nickel-plated copper water blocks. The company received several complaints from users about the nickel plating to be of substandard quality, and corroding away much faster. Nickel plating itself is supposed to work as a corrosion-resistant coating over copper. Nickel plating gives the surface of the block a chrome-like lustrous shine. EKWB, after conducting its own tests, blamed silver coils and copper sulphate additives, anti-algae agents used in public water supply. A weak defense, considering people use distilled water (battery water) in their loops, or coolants that are formulated to be less corrosive than tap water on metallic parts of the loop.

A RRTech forum member conducted a wide range of tests including microscopic imaging of a water block, revealing what he alleges to be substandard quality of nickel plating, rather than corrosion caused by bad coolant. Meanwhile, EKWB halted production and sales of nickel-plated copper water blocks.

In its latest statement, EKWB says: "As EK is looking for lasting solution for nickel plating issue (concerning corrosion because of silver coils and copper sulphate additive) we decided to halt sales of nickel plated products till solution is found and tested. Our resellers were advised to halt sales too. We cannot put users into position, that we replace products and corrosion starts again on new product. Hopefully we will find an answer and tested solution in short while. We will update you as soon as we have any news. However, If customer insists on buying EK nickel block, we offer a customer full 24 month warranty on material, manufacturing and corrosion."
