Be Quiet! Releases Duo of Dark Rock CPU Coolers

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Though silently introduced a month ago, yet now official Be quiet took the challenge to develop a cooler which offers excellent cooling and a near silent operation. As the company stands for maximum performance, they put a lot of effort into the development process. It took them over one year, to work out the perfect combination between performance and noise. Until the finished product there were over 40 prototypes produced and numerous scenarios were simulated.

The silent duo
As a result of all this longsome work, be quiet! presents two very special products: the Dark Rock ProC1 and the Dark Rock AdvancedC1. The two coolers are top notch and were designed for enthusiasts, just like the company's power supplies. One can see that just by the look of these products. Both coolers look really decent and strong because they are completely nickel-plated. They take advantage of the award-winning Silent Wings fans, which were already used in the newest generation of be quiet! Power supplies.

Dark Rock Advanced C1
The Dark Rock Advanced is a powerful tower-cooler using heatpipe technology. Six pipes are taking care of the heat dissipation from the massive copper base up to the 44 aluminium fins. The Dark Rock AdvancedC1 can handle CPU power losses up to 180 watts without any problems, while doing so, the 120mm fan runs at a maximum speed of 1500 rpm and creates very little noise level of only 18,8 dB. Rotation speed is automatically controlled via PWM signal.

  • Single tower-layout
  • Six 6mm heatpipes
  • 120mm "Silent WingsPWM" fan, running at 1500 rpm
  • Maximum noise level: 18,8 dB
  • Maximum TDP: 180 watts
Dark Rock ProC1
The Dark Rock Pro is a cooling-monster. It offers excellent cooling thanks to its twin tower design and two 120mm fans. Seven heatpipes spread the heat, no matter which CPU is being used or how far it

Scythe Announces Mine 2 CPU Cooler

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Japanese cooling specialist Scythe hereby officially announces the launch the new high-end CPU Cooler Mine 2. The Mine 2 CPU Cooler is based on a twin cooler Layout. Eight copper heatpipes transport heat to two generously dimensioned cooling blocks. By placing the fan in between the 2 heatsink towers, intake as well as exhale airflows are optimized to provide high performance. Furthermore, the lower part of the installed fan is designed to cool the devices around the CPU socket, such as voltage regulators and RAM. The structure of the heat sink makes it possible to use a total of up to three fans by purchasing separately sold fan clips. In this manner, the air flow and thus the cooling capacity of the Mine 2 will be significantly increased by using the push / pull principle.

By default, the Mine 2 will be delivered with a centrally placed, adjustable 140 mm Slip Stream PWM & VR fan. Although the fan supports the PWM feature, the user can manually adjust the PWM bandwidth between 470 to 1,370 rpm and 740 to 1,900 rpm. Despite the changed bandwidth, the fan is still controlled by the PWM signal from the motherboard, allowing an individual but also dynamic fan control. Alternatively it is possible to disable the PWM function. Instead the fan can be controlled manually in a range of 500 to 1,700 rpm. This gives every user the option to optimize the Mine 2 CPU cooler for performance or low noise according to own preferences.

For safe and stable attachment to the motherboard, the new F.M.S.B.3 (Super Flip Mount Backplate 3) mounting system is used. Due to the improved design of the backplate, Mine 2 CPU is compatible with all current sockets, including the new LGA1155.

Scythe Mine 2 will be available worldwide from early February 2011 for 50.50 Euro (Excl. VAT).

Noctua offers Free Mounting Kit LGA1155

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Noctua let us know that owners of older Noctua CPU coolers who wish to upgrade to the upcoming LGA1155 socket will be able to obtain the appropriate NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting kit free of charge. Recent models such as the NH-C14, NH-D14 or NH-U12P SE2 already include the NM-I3 mounting kit and are fully compatible with LGA1155 out of the box.

"We're determined to provide the best possible support to our customers and we've sent many thousands of NM-I3 mounting kits free of charge to users who wanted to upgrade to LGA1156", says Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO. "With Sandy Bridge just around the corner, we're pleased to announce that we'll extend this offer for LGA1155 users. Everyone owning an older Noctua heatsink that doesn't support LGA 115x out of the box will be able to upgrade to the new socket free of charge!"

Due to the spacing of the mounting holes being identical on LGA1155 and LGA1156, Noctua's NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting kit for LGA1156 also supports Intel's upcoming 'Sandy Bridge' platform. The following Noctua coolers already include the NM-I3 SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA1156 and can thus be used on LGA1155 mainboards without any upgrades or modifications: NH-C14, NH-D14, NH-C12P SE14, NH-U12P SE2, NH-U9B SE2.

Users of older Noctua models that don't include the SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA1156/1155 can obtain the NM-I3 kit free of charge on Noctua's website in order to make their heatsinks compatible with the new socket. A proof of purchase (photo, scan or screenshot of the invoice) of both a Noctua CPU cooler and either a socket 1155 mainboard or socket 1155 CPU are required. The NM-I3 mounting kit is compatible with all Noctua retail coolers since 2005 and is also available in stores at a low service charge.

Noctua NH-C14 Premium Cooler

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Noctua today officially introduced its new NH-C14 CPU cooler. Sporting an exquisite, uniquely flexible 140mm dual fan setup of two Noctua NF-P14, the NH-C14 is a highly customisable, premium-class top-flow solution that further boosts the renowned quiet cooling performance of the company's much acclaimed NH-C12 series.

"Our NH-C12 coolers are renowned to rank among the most capable top-flow cooling solutions on the market, so we're truly proud to offer a further substantial improvement in quiet cooling performance with the new NH-C14", says Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO. "This model really closes the gap to good tower coolers while being much lower in height and ensuring better component cooling."

The NH-C14's six heatpipe c-type design with two NF-P14 FLX 140mm fans brings top-flow cooling performance to a new level while maintaining a much lower profile than today's tower-style coolers and providing excellent airflow over RAM modules and near-socket mainboard components.

The two supplied NF-P14 premium fans can be installed on top and underneath the fin-stack to configure the cooler for maximum performance in dual fan mode and either lower profile or maximum component clearance in single fan modes. Run with a single NF-P14 fan underneath the fin-stack and with the top fan removed, the NH-C14 measures only 105mm in height, which makes it ideal for use in smaller enclosures and HTPC applications. Run with a single fan on top, the NH-C14 provides a full 65mm of clearance for chipset coolers or RAM modules with high heat-spreaders.

Topped off with a tube of Noctua's award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound, Low-Noise and Ultra-Low-Noise Adaptors (U.L.N.A.) as well as the professional SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system (LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA775, AM2, AM2+ and AM3), the NH-C14 forms a complete quality package for the highest demands.
