Noctua NH-L12 66mm low-profile cooler

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Noctua presents its new NH-L12 low-profile cooler for Small Form Factor cases and HTPC environments. The NH-L12 features a flexible NF-F12 (120mm) / NF-B9 (92mm) dual PWM fan setup that can be configured either for full performance in dual fan mode or extra-low profile (66mm) with the top fan removed.

"The industry trend towards Small Form Factor and Home Theatre PCs is well-established, but there's still a lack of suitable high-quality quiet CPU coolers", explains Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO. "Building a powerful PC always requires a capable CPU, which in return demands a competent cooling solution. But who wants his HTPC to sound like a jet engine? This is precisely where the NH-L12 steps in."

Thanks to its exquisite dual fan setup consisting of Noctua's highly optimised NF-F12 (120mm) and NF-B9 (92mm) premium fans, the NH-L12 pushes the bar in terms of low-profile quiet cooling performance. Alternatively, the NH-L12 can also be used with the NF-B9 92mm fan only in order to reduce the overall height to 66mm. This way, the cooler is suitable for many typical

Prolimatech shows two new LGA2011 cooler designs

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Prolimatech is teasing with two new cooling designs for Intel's LGA2011 platform. Revealed below is a slimmer version of the Prolimatech Genesis that stacks both heatsinks parallel to the plane rather than perpendicular. The company also shared CGI-renderings of a new design in which the heatpipe takes three sharp U-turns, with an aluminium fin stack in each of these U-turns.

The second cooler (last two images above), has a slightly more exotic shape, in which the heat pipe take three sharp U-turns, in the long-arms of each of these U-turns is an aluminum fin stack, and the CPU base is in the center. Unlike the other cooler design, this cooler has a side-flow ventilation. The aluminum fin stacks don't propagate all the way down, to make room for the memory areas below. As for the ventilation, a single 120 mm fan can be attached in the central portion, more fans can be attached to the aluminum fin stacks at convenient locations. There is no word on when (or if) this design will materialize.

Scythe Kaze Master II Fan Controller

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Japanese cooling expert Scythe announcing the availability of the successor of popular Kaze Master 5,25 fan controller. Over the time collected customer and media feedback was used to develop Kaze Master II. Second version now combines new technology and improvements to provide an even more intelligent fan controller.

Kaze Master II fan controller fits common 5.25 inch PC case bays and allows users to control up to 4 fans individually as well as monitoring of up to 4 temperature sensors. Fan speed is being adjusted using potentiometer knobs in the front panel. It is furthermore possible to slide-in the knobs to hide them after fan speed has been adjusted. Hence allows a very flat front-panel design, making Kaze Master II very suitable for pc chassis with front doors.

Wide voltage regulation range from 3.7 to 12 volts has been adopted from the earlier model, allowing more room for fan speed and airflow optimizations inside the PC Chassis. In addition difficulties with not spinning up fans have been solved. Kaze Master II supplies all fans with a stable 12 Volts Spin Up Voltage at the startup. After a short spin up period, previously set voltage will be applied.

Actual fan speed and temperature values of the 4 channels are displayed on the VF-Display (Vacuum Fluorescent Display). Temperature values can be displayed both in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. Supported temperature range is specified between 0 and 100

Arctic Freezer i30 and A30 CPU Coolers

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Arctic seeks to expand its business with two new CPU coolers in the Freezer series, the i30 and A30, which target Intel and AMD systems respectively and promise to deliver much better performance when compared with the boxed solutions offered by the two companies., softpedia reports:

Apart from the mounting system used, the two coolers sport identical specs and performance, the i-version featuring a retention kit compatible with LGA 2011, LGA 1155 and LGA 1156 platforms, while the A30 supports instead AMD's AM3 +, AM3, AM2 + and AM2 platforms.

Despite this difference, both of the models tip the scale at 905 grams (just under 2 pounds) and are paired together with a PWM-controlled fan measuring 120mm.

This is designed to send cool air through 48 aluminum fins that are mounted on four 8mm thick heatpies which draw the heat away from the CPU heatspreader.

Arctic usually invests a lot of effort in making its coolers as silent as possible, and things are no different with these two Freezer models that should emit about 0.3 Sones of loudness when running at full speed.

To put things in perspective, Intel

Scythe coolers get LGA2011 support

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Scythe presents Rev.B editions of its Mugen 3, Mugen 3 PCGH, and Ninja 3 processor coolers. These new revisions add the necessary mounting tools for Intel's new LGA2011 platform.

All three Scythe CPU Coolers are utilizing the 4th version of Scythe's Flip Mount Super Back-Plate (F.M.S.B.) allowing firm mounting for current sockets. Mainboards which are using the Socket R (LGA2011) are already equipped with a pre-installed backplate and do not require the Scythe Flip Mount Super Back-Plate. In this case a convenient and easy mounting is accomplished by attaching four screws directly to the socket which are then fixed using a small wrench. Required screws as well as wrench are part of the accessory supplied with Scythe's Rev. B CPU Coolers.

Even though brand-new sockets are added to the compatibility list, prior sockets are still supported. Scythe is trying to keep the tradition of supporting prior sockets such as socket LGA775 and AM2 even for the new Rev. B CPU Coolers. New Scythe Revision B CPU Coolers will be available and shipped starting next week.

Suggested MSRP for the three models as following:

Mugen 3 Rev.B (SCMG-3100): 36,00 EUR (excl. VAT/TAX)
Mugen 3 Rev.B PCGH (SCMG-3PCGH): 42,00 EUR (excl. VAT/TAX)
Ninja 3 Rev.B (SCNJ-3100 ): 36,00 EUR (excl. VAT/TAX)

Noctua Launches New PWM Fans

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Not cheap, but freakishly good though. Noctua today announced PWM versions of its renowned NF-P12, NF-B9 and NF-R8 fans. Having received more than hundred awards and recommendations from the international press, the classic NF-P12, NF-B9 and NF-R8 fans helped to found Noctua's reputation as a top-tier manufacturer of premium grade quiet cooling components. The new PWM versions build on the proven designs and feature Noctua's novel NE-FD1 IC for fully automatic control and ultra-low power consumption.

"Our customers have been asking us for PWM versions of our fans for a long time, but the available PWM fan driver ICs simply weren't up to our quality standards", explains Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO. "With our NE-FD1, we've now got our custom-designed IC that allows us to build PWM fans that consume less power and remain quieter at low speeds."

Most conventional PWM fan driver ICs put out square signals that cause sudden torque impulses. These impulses can cause minute deformations of the entire fan structure which lead to audible "clicking" noises that are especially noticeable with many common PWM fans running at slower speeds. Adopting Noctua's Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology, the custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC slows down the slew rate of the output signal in order to give a smoother, less sudden torque impulse. This way, PWM switching noises can be effectively suppressed and the fan runs even quieter, especially at low speeds.

Noctua's NE-FD1 IC was not only fine-tuned for superior quietness, it has also been carefully optimised to allow for ultra-low power consumption. As a result, the new PWM models consume 25-40% less power than their non-PWM counterparts.

All models come with Low-Noise Adaptors, 30cm cable extensions and 4-pin y-cables that allow to connect a second PWM fan to the same fan header for automatic control. Equipped with Noctua's signature SSO bearing and topped off with a 6 years manufacturer's warranty, the NF-P12 PWM, NF-B9 PWM and NF-R8 PWM are a proven premium choice for the highest demands.

Price and Availability
The new PWM models are available immediately at a recommended retail price of EUR 19.90 / USD 24.90 (NF-P12 PWM), EUR 17.90 / USD 21.90 (NF-B9 PWM) and EUR 14.90 / USD 18.90 (NF-R8 PWM).
