Intel just released their 730 series SSDs, Shipping in capacities of either 240GB or 480GB, the Intel 730 Series SSD is, as you probably expected, of the 2.5-inch variety, and is also 7mm thick. It also consumes up to 5.5 watts of power when active and as little as 1.3 watts when sitting idle.

But hey, that is a personal opinion I guess. Skype for Windows Phone 8 now requires Microsoft Account

The company has been trying to move away from the old Skype username system for a while now, but until today Windows Phone 8 owners had a choice of using their Skype or Microsoft Account login. In a blog post today, the Skype team says that new Windows Phone users can simply access the Skype app with the same Microsoft Account info they registered when they got their device. Current phone owners who have used their Skype login before today will now be prompted to sign into the app with their Microsoft Account email address and password first before typing in their old Skype name and password; this one time step will link both accounts together.

EIZO issued a press release today in which they announce the 27-inch ColorEdge CG277 and CX271 color management monitors. The ColorEdge CG277 is targeted at professionals in digital photography, prepress, video editing, post production, and other fields that require the most predictable color in their workflow. It features a sensor that is housed inside the monitor and swings up onto the screen for self-calibration.

DirectX & OpenGL to open up low-level access

There is some pretty big news out there. AMD recently released mantle, a low level API that eliminates heaps of CPU overhead (draw calls). It now seems that both DirectX and OpenGL will follow that same route as AMD’s API. Over at this years GDC some slides where shown demonstrating that DirectX and OpenGL will start offering low-level access in order to reduce draw overhead. This should excite gamers with slower processors alright.
