Gigabyte mobo sales did well in 2013

Gigabyte Technology shipped 17.5 million motherboards in January-October 2013 and will ship two million units in November, and thus is expected to ship 21 million units in 2013, a 28-year highest annual level and growing 10.5% on year, according to market watchers, adding that Gigabyte is expected to reach 2013 net EPS of NT$3.60 (US$0.12) which is its highest since 2004.

Intel has big plans for Thunderbolt in 2014 as it pushes to make the connectivity standard more competitive against USB and now, to some extent, Ethernet. According to documents obtained by VR-Zone, Intel is looking to bring some features found in USB and Ethernet to its high-speed connectivity platform with its 2014 controller. The new features that Intel is including are the ability to charge devices and transfer files between computers using a straight connection.

OCZ Filing for Bankruptcy, Announces Offer from Toshiba to Purchase Assets

OCZ is filing for Bankruptcy, however this is a technical bankruptcy, meaning Business continues as usual with the difference that OCZ will become part of Toshiba. The past year OCZ has had a very hard time securing NAND flash modules making their volume shipments of SSDs low. With Toshiba backing them, that at least will be one of the problems that is going to be solved. I also just learned from OCZ that Warranty procedures will continue as normal. This is a technical bankruptcy.

A few days before the official Launch the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, there was talk about a supposed Black Edition of the new high-end graphics card. Instead of the 6 and 8-pin connectors, it is said to be equipped with two 8-pin ones, and theoretically consume up to 375 watts. In addition, it was said to have no TDP limit and significantly higher clock rates - provided the cooling would cope with it. EVGA has discovered that a small batch of our 1300W & 1000W Power Supplies (P/N: 120-G2-1300-XR, 220-P2-1000-XR, 120-G2-1000-XR) did not meet the quality levels that EVGA stands behind. There is insufficient insulation on the thermal pad by a heatsink which may cause the Power Supply to shut down or be unable to power on.

Intel pumps US$1 billion subsidies to promote tablet processors

Intel will offer marketing subsidies of US$1 billion to encourage tablet vendors to adopt its processors in 2014 and thereby aims to ship 60 million tablet processors for the year, almost 10 times the estimated 6-7 million units for 2013, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Intel Taiwan indicated that Intel's 2014 target shipments for tablet processors are 40 million units.

Microsoft to slim down number of versions of Windows

Microsoft's Julie Larson-Green stated at a recent investor event that having three versions of Windows is too many. She didn't give any exact details about what the software giant plans to do about this, but it seems highly probable that Windows RT and Windows Phone will be merged in the near future. Larson-Green did mention that she sees the need for one full Windows and one more mobile Windows that is more locked down.

Microsoft attacks Google and its Chromebook in new video

Microsoft has released a new video for its Scroogled campaign and it's clear, the gloves are off when it comes to bashing Google. In the clip, posted above, Microsoft has recruited a few of the cast members from Pawn Stars to talk about the Chromebook. The clip is nothing short of throwing mud directly at Google as Rick, the lead character in Pawn Stars, refuses to buy a Chromebook off of a potential customer because it is not a real laptop. Rick says that because the Chromebook applications are web based, when you are not connected to the web, it's basically a brick. Further, Rick says that by having the Chromebook logo, it's not real laptop because it doesn't come with Office or Windows. Microsoft doesn't stop there; they say that when you are connected to the web, the Chromebook will track what you do online to put ads in front of your face.
