This is a ROG (Republic of Gamers) motherboard, and that means extra enthusiast features alright, as for overclockers, here's where things start to get serious, the board is designed with a 12-phase Digi+ VRM, Subzero Sense, has voltage-measurement points and the ROG Connect technology (overclock the board via Bluetooth from their phone).

And yes there's still more, ASUS throws in the OC Key as well, which creates an overlay on the active DVI monitor to adjust overclock settings in real-time without using additional software or hardware (it connects to the graphics card DVI port). ASRock shows UEFI with web-update feature

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

See, not that is a handy feature. ASRock created the first UEFI BIOS program that lets you update itself from within the BIOS setup program:

ASRock has developed an update to its UEFI BIOS program that lets it update itself from the web. All you have to do is point it to a working internet connection that uses the motherboard's onboard Ethernet controller. Once configured, the utility calls home to ASRock, checks if a newer version of the BIOS is available, downloads it, and updates itself, with minimal user-intervention. The feature cuts down time spent in finding the right BIOS ROM image online, and copying it to a USB flash drive. Unlike Intel's Express BIOS Update program, it does not need the motherboard to have any storage devices connected. Upcoming ASRock motherboards could ship with the feature, and select current ones could get this feature via a BIOS update.

Sony reveals silicon sheets that rivals thermal paste

Cooling 272 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Sony has developed a prototype of a silicon and carbon-based thermal seet that promises to meet, if not exceed, the thermal conductivity of standard thermal grease.

Tech-On reports that a new product shown last week in Tokyo by Sony could solve these issues. The company revealed a prototype of a silicon and carbon-based thermal sheet currently known as "EX20000C" that measures 0.3-2.0mm thick with a thermal resistance of 0.4-0.2K cm2/W and a compressive load of about 1-3kgf/cm2 -- five or six times the effectiveness of Sony's previous solution.

EX20000C supposedly meets, if not exceeds the thermal conductivity of standard thermal grease. A show floor exhibit compared the sheet's effectiveness with a conventional setup and it managed to reduce the processor's temperatures by an additional three degrees Celsius. In addition to eliminating cleanup and preventing overapplication, the sheets last longer than paste because they don't degrade.
