As a mouse, the Chameleon X-1 has a 1600 dpi optical sensor, which makes it qualifies it as a gaming mouse, has a right-handed orientation, and about 5 mouse buttons. A sliding switch on the side switches between its mouse and gamepad modes. In the gamepad mode, the optical sensor and mouse buttons are deactivated, except that some side buttons remain active and double up as triggers and bumpers. It has a typical gamepad layout with a D-pad, four face buttons, and two sticks. The mouse connects to the PC wirelessly, using a USB nano-receiver. AMD has still not set an exact launch schedule for Wichita, its 28nm second-generation entry-level APU. Given the uncertainties, it seems likely that the chip may be released later than expected.

Officially, the code-named Wichita accelerated processing unit (APU) is planned to be released in 2012. However, a source with knowledge of AMD's plans said that the company still has not set any exact schedule for the roll-out of its second-generation entry-level APU-based platform. In fact, AMD intends to sell its Brazos chips till Q4 2012 at least, according to the person, who decided to remain anonymous. However, it should be noted that the existing plans are not final.

AMD code-named Wichita accelerated processing unit is a pretty revolutionary design that will be the industry's first quad-core x86-based system-on-chip with built-in graphics and I/O capabilities. Wichita will integrate up to four Bobcat-class x86 cores with Turbo Core 3.0 dynamic acceleration technology, DirectX 11 graphics core, DDR3 memory controller as well as Yuba FCH [Fusion controller hub] that will support Serial ATA, PCI Express, USB and other I/O protocols. AMD Wichita, which will utilize FT2 BGA packaging, will be the heart of Deccan platform for netbooks, low-cost ultra-thin notebooks and nettops.

Earlier this month MSI's marketing department send out evidence that Gigabyte's motherboards don't truly support PCI Express 3.0(check here), but now Gigabyte defends itself with a presentation of its own.

In its short presentation with no more than 5 slides, Gigabyte tried to provide an explanation to its claim that most of its new motherboards are Gen 3-ready. The presentation begins with a diplomatic-sounding message on what is the agenda of the presentation, followed by a disclaimer that three of its recently-launched boards, Z68X-UD7-B3 & P67A-UD7/P67A-UD7-B3, lack Gen 3 readiness. This could be because those boards make use of a Gen 2 NVIDIA nForce 200 bridge chip, even the first PCI-E x16 slot is wired to that chip.

For Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, the Open Beta will be visible on the consoles' digital marketplaces under Battlefield 3. For PC, you need to install Origin and download the Open Beta from within the Origin application.

Check out a product from a company called ColorFire, their upcoming dual-GPU Xstorm HD 6850 X2 4GB graphics card. Special features include silver plating on most of the PCB's contacts and DIP-switched based voltage control.

With this card, the designers are trying out what they call "Silver-Plated Technology". All of the PCB's contacts (the metal-exposed parts onto which components are soldered), apart from the PCIe and CFBE interfaces, are plated with silver. Silver is one of the best conductors. ColorFire argues that the use of silver contacts reduces resistance, and also helps with cooling.

The next interesting feature is the use of DIP-switched based voltage control, which is an old-school yet direct and effective way of tuning voltages. Voltage measurement points are consolidated to a convenient location (next to the power connectors), and are angled for easy access. Lastly, a pair of jumpers near the display output connectors, allows you to switch between two sets of EEPROMs, each having a different clock and voltage profile via TPU.

The GPU housing inside of Intel's Ivy Bridge CPU will support displays with 4K HD resolution, which means a resolution of up to 4096 x 4096 pixels.

It's the vastly improved display capability, and associated ultra high resolution video processing, of the new chip - in fact, so high it stands on an equal footing with the fastest high end discrete GPUs in this particular measurement: the 4K display resolution. Take a look at their Multi Format Codec or MFX engine, capable of playing multiple 4K videos at the same time, even a wall of them, as Intel says.

Not only can the MFX engine display up to 4096 x 4096 pixels on a single monitor, but it can also handle video processing for 4K QuadHD video as well. Remember when, two years ago, Jen Hsun Huang at Nvidia for the first time encouraged 4K resolution - at that time 3840x2400 or as he called it XHD2, for ultra realistic gaming too, to use the extra pixels to justify the high end card need? Now, what a fate, Intel is making it real on the - integrated graphics platform, of all. Now, can we have back those 16:10 3840x2400 or, better, 4096x2560 monitors?

Intel is expected to bring the first update to it high-end Sandy Bridge processor lineup with the introduction of the Core i7-2700K CPU, which was just confirmed to have a base operating frequency of 3.5GHz.

The upcoming Intel chip was recently listed by motherboard maker Biostar in the CPU support list for one of its LGA 1155 motherboards.

Besides the improved clock speed, the most important feature brought by the Core i7-2700K is its unlocked multiplier design, as this means overclockers will be able to push the operating frequencies of the processor further than Intel's specifications.

When it designed the Sandy Bridge architecture, Intel decided to take a different route as far as overclocking is concerned and it locked the BCLK of the CPUs.

Pricing and the release date is as of yet unknown.

The fourth iteration of PCIe will arrive in about four years from now.

The statement was made by no other than the PCI SIG's chairman, Al Yanes. PCI SIG announced at the end of June that it formed an exploratory group for the Gen 4 of the PCI Express standard, comprising members from companies such as AMD, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Intel.

These are conducting various simulations using chip, channel, packet and socket data and have determined that a throughput of at least 16 GT/s is feasible for PCIe Gen 4. The experts are expected to deliver a final report until the end of this year.

Right now, it seems that in order to achieve the high transfer speeds that are required by the fourth iteration of PCI Express, scientists will have to focus more on the board-level channels through which the signal passes and less on developing specialized chips.

As a result, PCI Express Gen 4 may be limited to distances about eight to 12 inches in length, compared to the maximum 20 inches that can be covered by PCIe Gen 3.

In addition to increasing the transfer speeds of the standard, scientist will also look into reducing the latencies of PCIe Gen 4 as well as into other aspects of the standards such as forward error correction, deeper pipelining and error reporting and control.

The PCI Express 3.0 specifications were released in November of last year, but the standard has yet to be used in any expansion cards.
