With the new flagship cards such as the Essence series, CL Titanium HD and the Auzentech offerings, putting out great sound, you also need great playback equipment for excellent sound. Your speakers are just as important as your sound source and as the saying goes; your chain is only as strong as your weakest link.

ASUS Vulcan ANC Headset review

Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

ASUS ROG Vulcan ANC headsets are possibly the best noise-canceling headset you can buy. They combine ultimate gaming features with audiophile sound to make one kick-ass product.

The Vulcan ANC have a few surprises, not just the sleek design and the red and black color scheme.  The first being that they are very comfortable, the ANC actually works, and above it all, they sound very good.  They are a little pricey, but don't let that get in the way, these are one of the best headsets you can currently buy. Gigabyte Shows X79 Motherboard Lineup at IDF

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Gigabyte send over pictures of four X79 motherboard that are on display at Intel's IDF in San Francisco, you can check out the images over here.

Starting at the top we have the G1.Assassin 2 X79 and the biggest surprise here really is the re-designed heatsinks which are much less in your face than the current models. That said, Gigabyte might very well change this before the board is launching, but we'll just have to wait and see if we'll get a gun themed heatsink or not on the final boards.

Expected features include a Killer NIC, Creative X-Fi audio and 3-way SLI and CrossFireX support. We also spotted a Marvell controller for a pair of eSATAp (eSATA/USB combo) ports and a Fresco Logic USB 3.0 host controller on the board.

One feature we couldn't figure out what it's for is the blue and green button on the rear below the 4GHz overclock button, although it could be some kind of BIOS switch to select between the primary and secondary BIOS.

LucidLogix unveils HyperFormance for its Virtu software

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Yawn -- LucidLogix presents HyperFormance, a new technology that promises higher responsiveness, improved frame rates, and sharper images:

LucidLogix demonstrated today for the first time at Intel Developer Forum 2011 (IDF) the injection of HyperFormance technology into its Virtu Universal GPU virtualization software for outstanding gaming responsiveness, visual quality and frame rates.

"Games are all about creating a suspension of disbelief and a more immersive overall lifelike experience," said Offir Remez, president and founder of Lucid. "HyperFormance technology provides a more responsive game interaction together with a clean visual image, making for a more pleasurable experience."

HyperFormance, found in the new model Virtu Universal MVP, boosts gaming responsiveness performance by intelligently reducing redundant rendering tasks in the flow between the CPU, GPU and the display. 3D games put the greatest demands on both the CPU and GPU. And as the race for higher performance on the PC and now in notebooks never ends, both CPUs and GPUs keep gaining performance. Despite more powerful microprocessors, display refresh rate remained fairly flat over the years, at 60-75Hz. The exception is found in 120Hz refresh rates for 3D stereo displays (used to produce 60 FPS for each eye). Lucid takes advantage of this disparity and eliminates redundant rendering tasks and predicts potential synchronization issues in the graphics delivery pipeline and intelligently removes and/or replaces them for better game control.

Called Virtu Universal MVP, the software includes the base features of Virtu Universal technology, which virtualizes integrated GPU and discrete GPU for best of breed functionality as well as features Virtual Vsync for no-compromise visual quality. With the added benefits of HyperFormance technology, Virtu Universal MVP improves game performance responsiveness in many ways:

  • Boosts responsiveness to the game at any frame rate
  • Improves gaming frame rates 30-70 percent
  • Increases Vsync frame rates- up to 120 FPS and beyond
  • Sharpens visual quality without tearing

Virtu Universal MVP is available to system platform manufacturers using Intel Sandy Bridge Z68/H67/H61, and other Intel integrated graphics, as well as many AMD processor-based PCs and notebooks. Virtu technology has been verified with hundreds of games and applications and can be found bundled with almost all of the world's Intel Z68 motherboards from the leading brands.

Logitech Wireless Touchpad

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Logitech introduced its own version of Apple's Magic Touchpad for Windows running machines, which is known as the Wireless Touchpad and brings multi-touch gesture support to Microsoft's operating system.

The black five inch button-free surface can be placed anywhere near the PC as it communicates with it through a RF wireless connection, much like other devices such as wireless mice and keyboards.

Users only have to install a special dongle inside an empty USB port, a so called Unifying USB adapter, that allows consumers to use a single receiver for hooking up as much as five other Logitech wireless devices.

Once installed, Logitech's Wireless Touchpad uses some special drivers in order to bring into Microsoft's OS support for two-finger scrolling, three-finger page flip gestures, and four-finger app switches.

According to Logitech, its latest creation can provide up to four hours of battery life and an LED indicator light tells you when the touchpad is on and your batteries are running low.

The Wireless Touchpad has been designed to be used together with Windows 7, but older version of the OS should also be supported with some basic functionality.

"The Logitech Wireless Touchpad is perfect for people who want to surf the Web in a more fun and natural way," said Rory Dooley, Logitech's senior vice president and general manager of the Control Devices business unit.

"It lets Web surfers flick through websites and effortlessly scan long pages - making browsing easier than ever," concluded the company's rep.

The Logitech Wireless Touchpad is expected to be available in Europe in September 2011, for a suggested retail price of

Having first made waves at this year's Computex, it's time for Foxconn's premium socket LGA2011 motherboard, the Quantum Force X79, to get down to business. The channel brand of the OEM giant is gearing up for a Q4 2011 launch, and seems to have made some notable changes to the design we saw in June, on its latest engineering sample. These changes include rearrangement of expansion slots, a finalized design for the heatsink over the X79 chipset, and a slight rearrangement of the front-panel header area. While this is still an engineering sample, there is some progress - for better or worse - as the final release revision takes shape.

Intel SSD 520 to succeed SSD 510

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Intel's SSD 510 will be succeeded by the SSD 520 "Cherryville". The new variant will offer higher capacities and faster performance, expected availability is Q4 2011 as vr-zone reports.

Codenamed "Cherryville", Intel's new high-end client SSD series is called SSD 520. Its main design goals look to be to spread the series in capacities both higher and lower than what the SSD 510 series could address. While SSD 510 is available only in 120 GB and 250 GB variants, the new SSD 520 will add a higher capacity variant, 480 GB, and a lower capacity one, 60 GB. A new 160 GB variant is added in the middle, and 250 GB is replaced by 240 GB.

With client SSDs and client environment in general, sequential transfer speeds are the king, Intel gave out just one set of sequential transfer rates for the SSD 520 series, 530 MB/s reads and 490 MB/s writes; and just one set of random access throughput, up to 40,000 IOPS read and 45,000 IOPS write. These figures are known to vary between the different variants, and so we'll have to wait for the final specifications that are specific to variants.
