Cooler Master V6 GT CPU cooler review

Review 567 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Cooler Master V6 GT CPU cooler review

We test and review the Cooler Master V6 GT CPU cooler. This all new model comes with two fans and an advanced heatpipe design. Next to that, Cooler Master implemented a V-shaped heatpipe array and asymmetrical aluminum fins (which are densely stacked for optimal cooling). The V6 GT design provides 200W of cooling power, which should be enough for even the most enthusiastic PC lovahs, and definitely interesting to the Guru3D crowd.

Branded with a V6 name, you can smell the automotive theme and design already. And somehow when you look at the cooler that definitely shows. To give it a little more of a niche feeling, the fans are covered by hoods, clip-on plastic covers. And when you press the Cooler Master logo slash button on top, you get nice LED lighting with three colors of your preference to choose from.

AMD details new Bobcat and Bulldozer core designs

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

AMD  has announced details of two of its upcoming core designs dubbed Bobcat and Bulldozer.

Highlights of the new cores were detailed today. Bulldozer will offer a new and innovative approach to multithreaded compute performance with a balance of dedicated and shared resources. The design also has a high core count that is scalable. Bulldozer will also offer new x86 instruction support for SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, and XOP including 4-operand FMAC. Other features include 32nm process technology and advanced power management features.

AMD is also working on a multi-threading technology of its own to rival Intel's HyperThreading, that exploits Bulldozer's branched integer processing backed by shared floating point design, which AMD believes to be so efficient, that each SMT worker thread can be deemed a core in its own merit, and further be backed by competing threads per "core".

AMDs answer to a lot of Intel's processors in the low-power category, be it the Core i3/i5 "Clarkdale", Core CULV, or even the Atom, seems to have finally taken shape with "Bobcat".

Bobcat will offer less than one-watt capable operation and out-of-order instruction execution for higher performance. AMD estimates that Bobcat will be able to provide 90% of today

Intel Core i7 990X (3.46GHz) in Q1 2011

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

On the Xeon side of things there already is a counterpart, but for the consumer market it seems that Intel is slowly but steadily prepping a 32nm six-core Gulftown-based Core i7 990X processor which would be released in Q1 2011 according to FudZilla. This chip will be clocked at 3.46GHz and will feature a 3.73GHz Turbo Mode.

The TDP of this chip is 130W. Of course you can also flick the multiplier up with a Core i7 980X, but still, nice stuff.

UK Defense Secretary wants Medal of Honor banned

Games 1603 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

The UK Defense Secretary, Liam Fox, wants stores to ban the sale of the Medal of Honor, the popular first person shooter as a player can play as the Taliban and kill British troops. Medal of Honor, which is due to be released in October, is based on the war between allied forces and the Taliban. Players get to choose sides; either play as NATO forces or as the Taliban.

A clip on the YouTube website shows a Taliban soldier fighting in southern Helmand province, where UK forces are based.

Gamers are apparently instructed to stop the coalition "at all costs", and receive points for every allied troop they kill.

Dr Fox said: "It's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban. At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands.

"I am disgusted and angry. It's hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product."

Point of View GeForce GTX 460 768MB TGT Ultra Charged review

We test and review the Point of View GeForce GTX 460 768MB TGT Ultra Charged. The Ultra Charged models come with a staggering Core frequency of 820Mhz and a Memory clock (effective) at 4000 MHz.

The high clocks had us a little worried at first. But even at its default 820 MHz the card remains very silent and levels at acceptable temperatures.

Definitely stuff to be on the lookout for, check out the Guru3D.com review right here.

AMD Cuts Desktop CPU Prices

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

AMD lowered prices on some of its chips, not huge price drops at all, but noteworthy. Fore example the lovely and unlocked AMD Phenom II X4 965 quad-core CPU is now available for $165, which is an awesome deal really. Have a look at our review right here

Noteworthy, but the new decrease also stresses AMD's  reluctance to drop pricing of quad-core AMD Athlon II X4 below $100 or $99.

Intel x86 server marketshare 93.5 percent

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Research firm IDC reported that Intel got even more marketshare from AMD in the server market, and astonishing 93.5 percent.

According to a new market share report from IDC, Intel managed to take critical server market share from AMD, with the former company seeing a year-over-year jump from 89.9 percent last year to 93.5 percent this quarter. Meanwhile, AMD's market share dropped from 10.1 percent to 6.5 percent.

AMD's slow transition to the Opteron 6000 series, and the subsequent market share losses, are practically the mirror image of Intel's success in getting its 32nm Westmere and 45nm Nehalem EX server parts into the waiting hands of server makers who finally were ready to open their wallets and start purchasing again.
