German photo camera manufacturer Leica has recently introduced its Pradovit D-1200 DLP projector at the Photokina show, the first product of its kind for the manufacturer. The 16:10 aspect ratio projector sports a 1920x1200 native resolution along with a 2,000 lumens brightness and a 2,500:1 contrast ratio. The D-1200's magnesium body houses a 0.98-inch DarkChip sensor sourced from Texas Instruments and a six-segment RGB color wheel. Setting up the D-1200 is made easier thanks to a vertical lens shift feature, and minimum projection distance is rated at nearly 3.3 feet.
A 220W Philips lamp is used, with its life rated at 3,000 hours in regular operating mode or 4,000 hours in a special Eco mode that cuts down to 1,400 lumens of brightness. Connections are targeted both at computers and regular video sources; they include one HDMI 1.3 input, an HDCP-enabled DVI-D jack, one each of RCA input, S-video and composite ports, and two analog RGB/component combo jacks. An Ethernet port exists for connecting the projector to networks.
The projector will cost the equivalent of about $12,700 when it launches in Japan on May 2nd.
Computer memory manufacturer Corsair recently unveiled its first solid-state drive with the S128. Meant for the mainstream user, the S128 has a 128GB capacity and relatively average read speeds of 90MBps and write speeds of 70MBps. What differs the S128 from similar drives, the company claims, is its use of a Samsung controller instead of the more common JMicron 602 controller used in MLC SSDs such as OCZ

Seagate continues to mess up. Several of the firm's Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives were having trouble with a firmware bug, last week we reported that the hard drive maker had released a firmware update to resolve this issue but the fix has been taken offline for validation.
Apparantly, the SD1A firmware update did more bad than good as many users are reporting that the update broke their hard drive. It is said that the patch worked on 1TB ST31000340AS and 750GB ST3750330AS Barracuda drives but caused read errors on 500GB ST3500320AS drives.
Seagate assures users that their data isn't lost, and says they're working on a new update that should resolve all problems with the Barracuda 7200.11 series.

BenQ has quietly added to its G series LCDs with several new 16:9 aspect ratio computer displays that are said to lower prices and complement the 16:10 models that form the bulk of the line. The refresh starts off with the G2410HD and G2411HD/HDA, a round of 23.6- and 24-inch 1080p displays that tout an Advanced Motion Accelerator feature which the company claims improves both response time as well as brightness. Their input also ranges from just VGA on the G2411HDA to the addition of DVI on the G2410HD; these plus HDMI and stereo speakers are included on the G2411HD.
An extra pair of displays, the G2220HD and G2220HDA, are BenQ's smallest 1080p models and come with either DVI and VGA (HD) or VGA only (HDA).
Multiple 720p (1366x768) displays are launching at the same time and start from the analog-only, 15.6-inch G610HDA and move up through the 18.5-inch G910HD and HDA models as well as the 20-inch G2020HD and HDA. While lower resolution, the entry displays are focused on green tech and in the two smallest sizes have a dual lamp system that can scale back to lower-power lighting in dark rooms and save energy in the process.
Dynamic contrast ratios across the newer G series ranges between 10,000:1 and 40,000:1 with pixel refresh rates sitting at either 2ms or 5ms depending on the panel.
BenQ is vague on its release and says it plans to launch the displays in China by the end of this month, but with a "worldwide" release later this year. Prices haven't been mentioned.

Albatron announced that it will release a 21.5" multi-touch LCD display in March, CeBIT time ? The panel will use Optical Touch Monitor technology, this works by tracking your movement with infrared light, optical sensors and reflection bars surrounding the screen on the edges of the frame. Albatron claims OTM is more cost-effective, durable and scalable than traditional touch panels.
Albatron's first OTM displays will be a 21.5" model with Full HD, 120Hz, DVI and VGA port. A USB 2.0 connection is used to relay the touch navigation data to your computer.

Quad core processor prices just got really interesting don't they ? Earlier today we reported that Intel was lowering it's prices. Now AMD is doing the same, significantly I must add.
It's reported that AMD has responded to Intel's processor price cut by lowering the prices of its new Phenom II X4 processors by 20 percent. The Phenom II X4 940 now sells for $225 instead of $275 and the Phenom II X4 920 dropped from $235 to $195.
AMD doesn't want to confirm the price cut over the phone, but the German site says online shops are now selling the Phenom II X4 for less than yesterday.

German computer site ATI Forum claims AMD isn't planning to release the ATI RV790 GPU at CeBIT. Their source claims there's no reason to introduce the RV790 yet and that ATI can still squeeze more performance out of its current cards with driver updates. Intel lowered it's Core 2 prices, and way more than initially reported. The prices shifted for its Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, and Pentium processors-and the changes make some Core 2 Quad processors quite considerably cheaper! Quad pricing is extraordinary good.
