Intel has announced that its upcoming Panther Lake processor will be built on the advanced 18A process node, utilizing the ES0 silicon revision. The Panther Lake-H variant is designed with a total of 18 cores, which include 6 Performance cores, 8 Efficiency cores, and 4 Low-Power cores. This configuration reintroduces low-power island Efficiency cores into the System on Chip tile architecture. The Performance cores are based on the Cougar Cove microarchitecture, expected to deliver enhanced Instructions Per Cycle compared to the previous Lion Cove generation, while the Efficiency cores continue to utilize the established Skymont architecture. The integrated GPU is planned to use Intel's Xe3 Celestial architecture.

The identified vulnerability pertains to the interaction between the processor and the system memory, specifically through the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) chip. The SPD chip is essential during the device's initialization phase, as it communicates critical memory information to the processor. The research team discovered that by manipulating the data provided by the SPD chip, an attacker could deceive the processor into recognizing a larger amount of memory than is actually present.
