Well, friends, served up here on the Guru3D table is the I/O Magic Hurricane Extreme sound card. Thankfully, this is not another Antec product review. So come up to the lab … and let's see what's on the slab…
This chip has lots of capability, DirectSound hardware acceleration, Sensaura HRTF's, and a hardware-based equalizer. If you ran out (those who walked don't count ;) and bought one of them Diamond MX400's you'll know what a Canyon3D is. Some of your integrated mobos will have an ESS chip in it. That's a Canyon 3D, or some silicon relative of it. The Hurricane Extreme card is the second in I/O Magic's three-part sound-card line-up. The top dog in the pound is the Typhoon Theatre, then the Hurricane Extreme, followed closely by the Storm Surge. What does water and sound do together? I dunno, I always get shocked when I take my radio into the shower.
