I/O Magic Hurricane Extreme Soundcard

Well, friends, served up here on the Guru3D table is the I/O Magic Hurricane Extreme sound card. Thankfully, this is not another Antec product review. So come up to the lab … and let's see what's on the slab…

You may ask yourself, "What, then, the heck is the Canyon 3DII?" Good question! Powered not by Mother Nature, as you would expect from its name, but ESS's little chip that could called the Canyon 3D-II.

This chip has lots of capability, DirectSound hardware acceleration, Sensaura HRTF's, and a hardware-based equalizer. If you ran out (those who walked don't count ;) and bought one of them Diamond MX400's you'll know what a Canyon3D is. Some of your integrated mobos will have an ESS chip in it. That's a Canyon 3D, or some silicon relative of it.

The Hurricane Extreme card is the second in I/O Magic's three-part sound-card line-up. The top dog in the pound is the Typhoon Theatre, then the Hurricane Extreme, followed closely by the Storm Surge. What does water and sound do together? I dunno, I always get shocked when I take my radio into the shower.
