NVIDIA GeForce4

Hello Everyone,

The NDA has been lifted, I'm free to talk !! First things first, everything you've seen heard and rumored about is true. Today NVIDIA has announced a new line-up of GeForce4 products.

Good and bad news .. bad news first, as always we receive our review materials too late for some reason, that's something we Europeans always seem to have. It happened before, it happens again. NVIDIA UK is not able to get the new boards out to us anytime sooner then upcoming Friday which means I will receive them next week after which a full-blown overview will be released.

The good news is that Creative Labs noticed this and took action but however, once again good and bad news ! Bad news, they had a GeForce4 Ti4600 ready to get shipped to me, however they blew the damn thing up. Yes, a true fact .. it's not working anymore as they 'stressed' it a little too much ;)

The good news then .. I was able to receive a GeForce4 MX420 from Creative Labs last week and this product review was just in time to be published today.

First things first, let's do a small overview. NVIDIA is releasing a complete new GeForce4 lineup based on two silicon's under the previously known codename NV17 and NV25.

NV17 - GeForce4 MX
The NV17 is the GeForce4 MX lineup and can be considered as the low-end segment of the consumer videocard market.

It will become available in 4 versions namely the MX420, MX440 and MX460. The difference between these videocards is of course core and memory frequency.

The more expensive the product the faster it will be. You can read all related information in our GeForce4 MX 420 review which will be posted in minutes time.

Memory Clock 550 MHz (DDR) 400 MHz 166 MHz 166 MHz

Theoretical Fill Rate 600 Mpixel/s 540 Mpixel/s 500 Mpixel/s 400 Mpixel/s
Price $179 $149 $90 $50

Basically the NV17 is an extrapolated GeForce2 MX with a few newer options and features, however good and very decent hardware support for DVD playback has now been built into this card. Also the GeForce4 MX finally has a built in video en/decoder for tv-out. In general this product range is a faster GeForce2 MX lineup with a few new features like Accuview, nView and LMA II.

I'll cut the information on the GeForce4 MX short right now, all details and information are covered in our review you'll find an entire overview of the new NV17 just a  few pages away.
