Product: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX XXX Edition 512MB gDDR3
Manufacturer: XFX
Information: XFX Graphics
Street price: 579 USD/EUR

So you'll know XFX by now right .. hey it's hard to miss them. Even at Cebit they had a "way" of communication and getting attention. Personally, they're one of my favourite manufacturers as they quite honestly do deliver some really impressive goods. Today's tested product is no different. The lovely GeForce 7900 GTX 512 MB, and this is the even lovelier XXX Edition. Yes XXX: Adult entertainment for games.

XFX - XXX Edition GeForce 7900 GTX 512MBNow, x-rated as it sounds this has nothing to do with that particular industry (sorry?). Confusing? Yeah, I think XFX has the most difficult to understand product line-up. Yes, they have launched the series 7 line. But next to the normal model there can be up to 5 other versions of that graphics card. Examples: The XXX edition. The XXX-XXX edition, the Extreme Edition, the Extreme-Extreme edition. We'll have to wait and see until I receive the final specifications, but consumer confusion is something you need to avoid these days, what with the large amount of products available. Luckily enough there's this small website called Guru3D.com to help you out with all your purchasing needs.

The XXX edition of the GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB from XFX means you receive a card that has been pre-overclocked by default, so there's no need for you to overclock manually. Two huge benefits come from this, the first being your overclocking is covered by warranty. Secondly, these cards have been pre-tested by XFX to see if they actually can take a high overclock, something which is always a bit of a gamble with a regular card.

Here's a thought. Since we know XFX is testing these cards manually, the "regular" versions likely will not overlock as well as they did not pass the Extreme Edition or XXX qualification.

So the XXX edition (I love using that word), what's overclocked then? Basically two things. First being the graphics core as it's running at a sweet 700 MHz (650 normally). The second important factor is obviously the framebuffer, a.k.a. memory, which normally runs at 2x850 MHz and now is running at 2x900 MHz. Not bad eh ?

Today's tested GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB is available as we speak and actually in pretty good volumes, keeping the prices at a level where they should be. Today's product will carry a MSRP of 499 USD and with that price we are finally back at an expensive yet still affordable level.

This new, better priced flagship product shows potential for sure due to it's faster clocks. But hey, you're at Guru3D.com, we're going to make this card sweat as we launch our entire benchmark suite at this graphics card to monitor it's performance at several image quality settings. Of course you'll see the usual technology overview, photoshoot, overclocking experiences and finally my verdict.

Okay, so this is the XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB XXX edition, we gotta put at least a little sugar in the coffee right ? When you are done drooling hit the next page alright please!
