Drumroll .. prprprpprprprprprpprp .. 1200 Watt ! Crowd goes "Ooohhh". Hello everyone, today here at Guru3D.com we'll have a look at one of the most impressive power supplies we tested to date.

We'll have a peek at a 1.2 Kilowatt PSU, this time from the folks at Sirtec. And I know now you are saying .. huh "Sirtec"? Quite honestly it's one of these manufacturers that make quality OEM PSU's themselves, yet you have their products under a lot of other names like Thermaltake, Yesico, Lian LI, HiS and hey .. Chieftec.

Sirtec seriously has a wide range of PSU's. Now I'll be honest, we never tested one of their PSU's before as they really are not "that" known are they ? Well, this review is bound to change that with our 3.5 million readers ...

That's right .. 1200 Watt. What happened ? I mean, in just a couple of years we went from generic 350 Watt power supplies towards the product we test today. Power consumption of PC's has gotten really out of hand. We need to start thinking about mother nature a little as next to our power bills this can't be healthy. Luckily we see a strong movement in the CPU/GPU processor industry where we start to see performance to watt ratio's. Power consumption is getting more and more awareness. With that in mind today our first ever 1200 Watt power supply review is being published. So if you are building a high-end uber-powered gaming rig then you need a good power supply unit (PSU). Do not underestimate the importance of the PSU.

Roughly a year or two years ago a trend picked up... we all created a demand for modified PCs. Remember the dull beige painted PCs ? They just had to go. We want nicely shaped cooled and preferably lit PCs with side windows so we could actually look at the inside of the PC. Really cool .. but that created another issue. We now had the beautiful looking cases where you could look inside, but that resulted in pulling the hairs out of your head as there were yellow, red, and black wires coming from the PSU everywhere. It was then that the PSU got another function, aesthetics .. it needed to look nice. By organizing them and by giving you the option to actually modify the wires you want to use, another problem was solved.

The two reasons mentioned above from a consumer point of view have been by far the most important development for PSUs, namely stable high output quality power distribution for high-end setups and the option for modability, using only the wires what you need. Almost ANY manufacturer has picked up on this trend and it became a very big market for sure. It seems that everyone is selling PSU's these days, while there are probably less than ten real PSU manufacturers world-wide. Sirtec is one of them.

The PSU we will be testing today is a really heavily built SLI/Crossfire ready piece of gear.

It's quad everything ready, an investment that'll last a long time as with this PSU your hardware can keep up with you for a long long time ... and it has that modability written all over it. Connectors are nicely wrapped in a foil and most of them are detachable so you can choose how much wiring you have inside your PC. We call that advanced cable management, it facilitates the installation of your PC and gives you the option to only use the required cables. 

We are talking about Sirtec's High Power 1200W Power Supply unit, a PSU with a good feature set with active PFC, short-protection and enough connectivity for the latest high-end components in your system, including PCI-Express 2.0 8 pin 12 volt rails meaning that this PSU is SLI, three-way SLI or CrossFire(X) ready.

As our tests will show one of the more notable features of this PSU is it's efficiency level. According to the specs it's rated at 85%, which is quite notable and surely important as the energy consumption of our PC's has grown massively over the past year or two. We went from PC's that consume roughly 300-350 Watts towards gaming rigs with dual or quad graphics cards, dual and quad core processors, multiple drives, tweaked and overclocked rigs and so on and so on. This has driven power consumption to really high and worrying levels.
