OCZ Trifecta Micro SD Memory 1GB review

Performance

The actual performance of Micro SD cards, quite honestly is an issue. Many microSD-cards on the market today have a hard time producing decent read and write speed results. Since the OCZ Secure Digital Trifecta 1 GB is rated as being 66x speed (read speed is 9900 KB/s) we should be able to see some reasonable results.

Let's have a peek how OCZ technology manages.

Above we can see Sandra's Flash memory performance test. Basically the test checks how many operations per second the memory can cope with versus different sized files. Compared to flash memory this Micro SD memory scores well.

I however like real world usage a little better, so let's just simply copy a 75MB file from and towards the flash memory and see how fast that goes:

Above you can see the average read speed of the flash. Not bad, but not extremely super either though.

Here's where the flash memory disappoints a little, especially for camera's who need to write as fast as possible. The Trifecta memory writes "okay". This is the nature of Micro SD memory though. It's more than fast enough for all camera's however.

The Verdict

As stated, we don't usually test flash memory as to be honest it's a bit boring and not our thing. That's where OCZ did it a little different. Normally when you buy a micro-SD module you'll receive just the module. The inclusion of a little converter is simply the additional value. It's just handy when you are in need to transport data really quick and don't have a card-reader at hand. Simply plug it into a USB port and you are good to go. It's about innovation and I can surely applaud that.

When we look at overall performance we notice that it's just as fast as most available Micro SD cards on the market. It's good, but nothing out of the ordinary (which is a bit unlike OCZ). Overall I like the cards very much, it's a decent performer yet the innovative converter is really where the innovation is to be found as it's convenient. It's just small and very handy. OCZ Trifecta memory cards will be available in 1GB and 2GB capacities and come with a 5 year warranty.

The OCZ Secure Digital Trifecta 1GB sells for $23.95  with the 2GB version at $39.95.
