OCZ PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Watt PSU

OCZ Silencer 750 Quad Crossfire edition (PC Power & Cooling)
Description: 750 Watt power supply unit
Info: OCZ Technology
Price: 175 USD

OCZ Silencer 750 Quad Crossfire edition (PC Power & Cooling)Hey guys, meet the powerful red devil. The product tested today is yet another power supply unit comes from PC Power & Cooling, ehm no... OCZ Technology... ehm no PC Power & Cooling... or is it... huh ?

Alright already then allow this reviewer to explain. A couple of months ago OCZ technology, bought another company. It's the highly respected PC Power & Cooling. Us Eu'peans never heard much from them, as they had a really harsh time entering the tough European sales channel. In the USA however they have been big, really big. Building reputable and professional PSU's is the name of their game. I remember a year or something ago when we reviewed NVIDIA's Quad-SLI (2x GX2) and they flew in a PSU. It was one of the very first 1 KW power supply's, and it was a drop dead good PSU. That's when two things hit me. The first being, we'll probably test a lot more PSU's in the future as they are getting important, and secondly... I have to keep an eye on that company called PC Power & Cooling.

Back to the European retail channel then. OCZ bought PC Power & Cooling, for the time being OCZ will sell the PC Power & Cooling as is. It's now their high-end segment of power supplies which is interesting as I always figured their now mid-range line to be pretty snazzy as well.

With this small introduction by OCZ's on the PC Power & Cooling product line, we land at the Silencer PSU rated 750 Watts. The product as shown today is available in two SKU versions, one SLI and one Crossfire. The SLI version is coloured dark black, the Crossfire version in demonic red.  The difference between the two? None except the colour. Obviously NVIDIA doesn't want a Crossfire logo on their certified PSU's and obviously AMD-ATI doesn't like a SLI logo on their certified PSU. For the completely neutral ones... I think there's also a third version in copper colour.

Ah well choices choices... it's good to have them right ? So what we'll do today is have a little tech brief on this PSU, do a nice photo shoot on the PSU (yeah, we'll strip her nekked!) and then do our usual load test. Since PSU's are getting more powerful by... well every minute that passes we also have a lot of issues actually stressing a PSU rated above say 600 Watt. Guru3D currently is looking into purchasing load/stress testers to objectively stress a PSU. If you have a company offering such a product, please contact us.

Alrighty... next page please.
