OCZ Technology PC2 9200 Reaper edition DDR2 memory reviewThe race for faster memory has been pretty crazy the past two years. The demand for enthusiast PV's has grown massively and and so did memory requirements. It was merely two years ago when 533 MHz DDR memory was the standard. Since then we moved from 667 MHz towards 800 MHz, recently 1066 MHz and current high-end systems can be seated with dual channel rated at a clock frequency of 1146 MHz  ... Amazing for sure. DDR3 however is luring around the corner and is slowly going into higher volume production in the upcoming year.

With that in mind OCZ technology recently released their Reaper series of memory modules. Modules that are blazingly fast and well .. very well marketed. It's the first series of memory with heatpipes ! Yes .. when you run memory at such high frequencies temperature can become an issue, and mind you that I say can with some reservations. Still the concept is simple and effective .. the fastest DDR2 memory that money can buy with an attractive to the eyes (and effective) cooling method. To make that concept a little more appealing a product always needs a good marketing spin e.g. series name and OCZ figured.. let's call it Reaper memory.

Well, you are on Guru3D.com .. so you know we all are suckers for that stuff ... so allow me to quote film maker Federico Fellini:

“Everyone knows that time is Death, that Death hides in clocks. Imposing another time powered by the Clock of the Imagination, however, can refuse his law. Here, freed of the Grim Reaper's scythe, we learn that pain is knowledge and all knowledge pain.”

Death hides in clocks ? hah .. brilliant and quite applicable to today's tested product.

Without further ado, today obviously we'll review the PC2 9200 2 Gigabyte Dual-Channel Reaper kit from OCZ, with a 1142 MHz clock frequency and some pretty okay timings a very interesting kit to have in your uber-powered and overclocked enthusiast PC.
