Introduction

"BeQuiet" is the name given to Listan's range of power supplies. Listan were established in Germany in the year 2000 and are a large distributor of computer hardware throughout mainland Europe.

We recently reviewed their Dark Power Pro 600 Watt PSU here and were very impressed with it. When the company contacted us and asked us if we wanted to review their new line of power supplies, we just couldn't say no.

There have been a large amount of power supply reviews here at Guru3D over the last 1-2 years, and rightly so. Obviously power requirements have gone up, and I'm sure that's been drummed into you many times, as has the importance of the power supply itself.

One of the reasons for there being so many PSU reviews on the web in comparison to before is because the manufacturers are really pushing their products as the PSU market has become highly competitive and everyone wants a piece of the action. Manufacturers that used to soley produce RAM, for example, have climbed onboard the bandwagon as well. These companies are constantly trying to think of ways to out-do each other and produce a successful PSU. They know how crucial the PSU is to system stability and they also know that the PSU is one of the components customers focus on the most, so much so that PSUs really have become a bit of a bragging rights topic.

There are so many different brands, models, designs and ideas out there but which PSU you choose to buy really depends on the criteria you need it to meet. Do you want it to be priced reasonably for what it is? Do you want the unit to be a good looker without being over the top? Do you want sleeved cables? Do you want 4x 12v rails? Do you want it to perform well and power a high-end rig whilst being reliable? Do you want your PSU to come from a reputable manufacturer? And lastly, do you want it to be quiet? (get it?) If the answer to all these is yes, continue reading this review as the BeQuiet StraightPower 700w meets your requirements.

If you feel the 700w version is overkill and pushing your budget then there are alternatives. The StraightPower line of PSUs consists of the following models: 350w/400w/450w/500w/550w/600w/650w/700w. As you can see there is a PSU in the line-up to match your individual needs and what the wife will let you spend. ;-) Do note that upto the 550w model the PSUs are dual rail. From the 550w and up they are quad rail.

In this review we will show you a selection of photos, details on the PSU, test it, wrap it all up in a conclusion and I will also have a go at explaining a little about rails. This PSU is a quad rail model, 4x 12v. You've probably all heard of dual 12v rails, but how about quad 12v rails? What does it all mean?!

A glimpse of the BeQuiet! StraightPower 700w PSU we received.
