BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 650W First Class review

The Verdict

A near flawless victory. One of the best series power supplies available in the market just got a little better. Power efficiency wise the older Dark power pro models already were pretty awesome. Listan increased efficiency a notch though. On average we estimate that you'll have an efficiency of roughly 85% at normal power consumption, it might be even a tad higher yet we do not have official number on that available. Our measured wattage peak compared to other PSU's we tested in the exact same conditions show that very similar consumption. High efficiency is good .. it's green and will save you money on the long term. So that's just impressive. I wonder if the +90% efficiency level will ever be reached though, that would be something.

Right now I'm thinking, is there really anything negative about the PSU to report, and to be honest .. no not really. Perhaps integration of ESA would be nice in a future model. And it would have been nicer to have had four PCIe connectors instead of two; but other then that I really can't think of anything.

You have your modability, efficiency and the great aesthetics. Even the cables are color coded so that you can't insert them into the wrong connector. On the other side of that cable you'll find a label that describes what the cable is for, not only that the labels have a picture in full color on them. The cables themselves are nicely sleeved in black wrapping. If you are color blind, on the connector side again everything is clearly labeled so you just can't do anything really wrong there either.

The biggest surprise however was the sheer silence of this PSU. It's just very classy as we measured 31.5 DBa in our test room. And I pretty much had to move my ears over the PSU to be able to hear it. Obviously with heavy load the fan will rotate faster but even then, you'll probably not hear it.

The all new Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 650W First Class Edition PSU is a classic and well thought through product. If you seek it at a (r)etailer, be sure to look at the SKU code: BQT P7-PRO-650W, this is the new model as tested today. You can pick it up for roughly 130 EUR. That's really a fair price for quality like this.

For that money you receive a good quality PSU with modular sleeved cables, high performance yet efficient output and a very safe and protected environment wrapped up in a very silent package. It's an easy to use, understand and connect (modular) power supply so I do not see any downside to this product. Highly recommended!
